So because of an accident he should suffer unnecessarily and preventably for the next week? Some people live perfect lives, the rest of us live in the real world.

So in the real world, people usually get inconvenienced when an accident happens, which is all that would have happened. Look, the OP didn't even stick around and see if the issue can be resolved. He got pissed off and just left and didn't even try to solve the problem. He suffered unnecessarily for sure, but mostly due to himself...

Try not to get the whole bottle spilled by a 10 month old next time? It shouldn't be that hard?

There are a lot of problems with the war on drugs, but this particular instance is just a fail on your end and has nothing to do with that issue.

Rite. Continue to be a sheep. The government know what's best for you. Screw your Primary care provider.

I can't say I agree. Codeine should be OTC, but because of our war on drugs you have to jump through hoops to get it.

If the war on drugs at least kept people off of drugs while having spent and continuing to spend billions, then we could at least say that much. But we can't even say that.

Why did you grab the subscription and leave? That sounds like the behavior of a drug addict. You should have hung around and waited, but I guess you preferred coughing all night versus waiting 10 minutes longer?

Logic so bad it hurts...

Oh, when he said he grabbed the prescription I thought he meant the medicine, and it just wasn't strong enough. If he grabbed the paper, OP is an idiot.

It was 8pm, so I'm guessing the office was closed.

They have an answering service that will have the doctor call you back after hours.

He went to the store with money in hand. The store had stock. Who's fault was it he didn't get what he wanted?

His own. Everyone knows this.

In this thread, many people effectively say, "If you're being anally raped, don't fight it. Just try to enjoy it."

No wonder this country is so fucked up.

Early 30s. Look I see that you're a single dad. It's obviously a challenge and not something I have experienced personally. That said, I still don't see how in this particular instance your conclusion is to blame the government?

Why not at least stick around and try to work with the pharmacist to get the matter resolved? If you've done that and the result hasn't changed then I could see myself agreeing with your rant.

Nobody was being raped for fucks sake.

O noes he would've had to wait a couple minutes while the guy called it in. O no for the love of god anything but that.

But he is got his panties in a twist and left. Only person to blame here is the OP plain and freaking simple.

Not mention all this over a cough and fever LOL! Suck it the fuck up buttercup.

No wonder this country is so fucked up.

Several things involved here:

A) Too many people abusing the stuff, which is why it started getting so much scrutiny in the first place. People making meth, or kids swallowing entire bottles of syrup to "robotrip" and getting terrible side effects in some cases.

B) Government reacting in knee-jerk fashion, assuming that most people cannot self-police their own behavior, puts it on the scheduled substance list. Stupid knee-jerk reaction, in my opinion. "but think of the children!"

As usual with public problems, the pendulum swings from one side to the other and doesn't stay at a reasonable in-between point.

what's there to understand? shit happens. not everything goes 100% as planned everyday. this is called the real world.

well I have a issue with besides the implausibility of a 10 month old having the strength to do that, and that is, how were they even in position to do it? Were you lounging on the couch with baby in one arm and an open bottle of codeine in the other, casually sipping while watching reruns of family feud in your trailer? Because if so, I think that is pertinent information in this thread

well, as per the DEA and their war on controlled substances.

Short story. I went to the doctor with a bad cough and fever last week. She sent me home from work, with a bottle of cough syrup and anti-biotecs and nasal spray. I think nothing of it, fill the prescription, went home, took some and the coughing finally subsided.

Unfortunately my 10 month old daughter slapped the bottle of cough medicine out of my hand and most of it fell on the floor. So I called the doctor, they make a big deal of it, had to come back in, she wrote me a prescription for something weaker, but it still was a controlled substance. Went to the pharmacy, they tell me sir, this is a controlled substance, we need to call the doctor office **even though the doctor wrote that the original was spilled** on the prescription.

I get upset (it was like 8pm), grabbed the prescription, and leave. I wind up coughing the whole night, and being so exhausted in the morning I had to call out another day from work.

All of this runaround for someone who is already sick (you can visibly see my coughing with pale skin), and being perceived as a drug abuser because the DEA is on some war of theirs. The people that really are sick and need help suffer, while these addicts can easily score a fix on the street, bypassing this whole crackdown on controlled substances.

Is this what America is turning into?

LOL, you can't be serious? I bet you were thinking "omg, I have something to post on ATOT now!"

BTW, if it's 8pm, how the hell are they going to verify the prescription? I don't know of any doctor's office that's open at 8pm. Hell, what pharmacy is open at 8pm?

We have a huge meth problem in Oregon. I'm very glad they have made it harder for these scum to make massive amounts of it just by walking into a store to get the ingredients. I'm ready to hate on the governments faster than anyone for taking freedoms away but keeping drugs from addicts and pushers is a good cause.

Get pissed at the people who caused the problem and abused the system. That's where the blame should go. You sound like a guy who is whining about a stop sign on the street because it so inconveniences you and takes away your freedoms. God forbid you be a little understanding and look at the greater cause.

He bought a controlled substance, used all of it in the first day, and came back for a second helping. No responsible doctor would turn a blind eye to that.

Rite. Continue to be a sheep. The government know what's best for you. Screw your Primary care provider.

You said the doctor's office and the pharmacy gave you a hard time, but only the second time you went there. What part of that is government intervention?

Most pharmacies are open until around 10, though there are thousands of 24 hour pharmacies all over the country.

The pharmacy didn't want to fill it because they got a "DUR" interaction for duplicate therapy. So, in order to not get reamed in the ass without lube by the DEA, they offered to call your doc to verify it's real. (DEA has cracked down on pharmacies not cockblocking people hard enough for controlled substances)

While very few doctors have office hours going beyond 8pm, most, if not all, have an answering service for emergencies.

You can blame the addicts, or you can blame the federal government. Take your pick.

Wow, based on a lot of responses I can take a guess at many of the people posted are "pro-legalization" for a reason. Hah.

It's common procedure, I see nothing wrong with them calling it in. Now yes, that would have sucked if you had to wait overnight for another refill if the doctor didn't answer...but how many junkies/resellers do you think they have dealt with in the past at that pharmacist?

It's common sense, I don't see the issue here. You're sick and rightfully grumpy because you're sick.
