I am a Sergeant in the U.S. Army Reserves and have been in since 1993. I have been a lot of places and met a lot of "our boys". I don't speak for "everyone" but I do know that most of the guys I have met never thought they would see battle. They joined the military because they wanted to fight for our country. These guys want to be there(Iraq) and will die honorably fighting for what they believe. These guys aren't "baby killers" but stand for values like: Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Selfless-Service, Honor, Integrity, Personal Courage.

Soldiers Code
I am an American soldier - a protector of the greatest nation on earth - sworn to uphold the Constitution of the United States.

I will treat others with dignity and respect and expect others to do the same.

I will honor my Country, the Army, my unit and my fellow soldiers by living the Army values.

No matter what situation I am in, I will never do anything for pleasure, profit, or personal safety which will disgrace my uniform, my unit, or my Country.

Lastly, I am proud of my Country and its flag. I want to look back and say that I am proud to have served my Country as a soldier.

Sounds like you are not and have never met a real U.S. soldier.

Just remember that soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines of the U.S. and other allied armed forces gave people the right to make such comments on forums such as this one hosted on servers in the US. Without them, this world would be a truly different place. Last time I checked, British soldiers were fighting in Iraq as well.

most soldiers i have met are good people, and i support them (my brother's a staff sgt in the air force in rammstein). i just dont support this current administration and having to put soldiers in harms way when it was not needed (YET).

i think half join because of the honor of serving our country, the other half join because they see it as a pretty stable job and had not many other alternatives that they liked.

*offtopic* has anyone played c&c generals? i went over to my friend's house, and whenever he clicks on an american infantry person, it says "i'll fire at anything"
ban EA! heh heh

He he, on the money. Stable job! As for C&C Generals the first mission is a trip! The US mission starts in Bahgdad and the intel says that they are believed to have bio chem weapons, then the cut scene shows them launch some nerve agent on their own people. Ironic, because this game was put out a few months ago before all this happened

He's not worth Flaming. Also take note that he is British and might be a little upset about the A-10 taking out some Brits yesterday

Richdog, your comment was a little below the belt IMHO,as an ex-RAF serviceman(aircraft weapons mechanic) myself I think most serviceman around the World don`t expect to be killed by friendly fire in a War situation, however it will happen .I`m sure the US pilot feels really bad right now ,I know I would.

Lets just pray they(both UK and US) get the job done with the minimum amount of casualties.

Least they didn't take a few loyal Brits with them like one of ours did. You should watch 4 feathers, that is the story of another Brit that refused to fight and it is loosely based on a true story, fairly entertaining imho.

But they did kill each other in a UK vs UK tank battle a few days ago. I understand them being upset at that US pilot, but damn, they have done it to themselves too. Don't get all bitchy with us when you're guilty of the same.

I have not served since April of 1970 but I am proud that there are still men and women that live by the code.

Thank you

Hey now, let's be fair and all. My job in the Army is to support operations stateside for an Army installation where many, many soldiers have deployed out of, many of them being National Guard and Army Reserve units. We are seeing our fair share of soldiers, both male and female who are finding some pretty weak reasons not to deploy with their units to the combat zone. There seems to be a fair amount of cowardice going around lately, although all told, I'm sure it's a fraction of a fraction of a percent of people pulling a "quick one" and not deploying overseas. All soldiers are offered the opportunity to claim conscientious objector status at some point during the mobilization process. Two brit soldiers our of how many? That's still pretty low, unfortunately the media coverage of it makes it seem far more important than it really is, much like most of the things going around on TV right now.

I work near a small air transport wing of the reserves. I see the C130's flying overhead almost nightly.

When ever I see one of these guys in a gas station or out and about I shake thier hand and say thanks. Are they on the front line? No. But they might someday and they would go before I as a civilan would.

To any person in the armed forces, active or reserve no matter what your rank, no matter what your job is, thank you.

At least they did it with dignity. We had that one nut that threw a grenade at his fellow soldiers while they were sleeping! Talk about a coward.

There is no dignity in abandoning your fellow troops.
