I find that this will always break the ice. Excuse yourself and say you need to use the restroom. After you are in there for about a minute, turn on the shower and let it run for a few minutes. (Cold or you will fog everything up and it will get quite uncomfortable.)

Then walk out afterwards and take your seat like nothing happened. The hard part is not completely cracking yourself up on the walk back to your chair.

The key to these type of situations is to bring up common interests or life situations that you both share. See if any of them have terrible money management skills, credit ratings in the single digits...or if any of them troll internet forums because they're quiet, reserved losers in real life. well i am typically the ice breaker. i can yap on and on. i tried today and intro'd myself. asked one dude if he's from out of town. his answer? yes.
