The funny thing is that I talked to a sales associate when I entered and she even admitted that she had heard of the problem. She took the shirts to the manager and the manager didn't look very happy and then told me, 'No, I've never heard of this problem. This is probably caused by cologne or oil/dirt on your skin. Did you wash/dry them? You can't do that.' So I of course pointed out the tag and ended up getting them exchanged.

I'm going to try dry cleaning them to see if it makes a difference. Worst case scenario is that I'll just trash them and wear my J Crew/BR shirts instead. It's just hard to pass up $20 shirts.

You shouldn't have to dry clean a shirt. It's a weak fabric, and that's that. If you wear them once a week or something, at $3.50 a shirt, after six weeks you've spent as much on cleaning as the shirt itself.

Subject: Return Policy

I have about seven 1MX shirts. One of the shirts (light blue) that I bought
less than six weeks ago is developing orange spots all over the collar. I
wash all of my dress shirts on cold, dry low, and this shirt has become so
discolored that I can't wear it to my job anymore. Another shirt (lime) is
doing the same thing - faint orange spots, this time around the cuffs.

Why are my shirts doing this? Is this a common problem? What is the return
policy for stuff like this?

my brother just bought some express shirts. they've just been lying around for a couple of weeks now. if he's not going to wear them, ill tell him to return them - esp if they're going to fade after a couple of washes.

i never dry clean my shirts b/c they dont require it. a good wash along with line drying works.

brooks brothers (primarily) and banana republic have some great shirts. i wear a size 15.5 33/34 and they fit perfectly.

My limited experience with Exrpess Shirts (Not MX... their "other" button ups) has been pretty good, but as others have posted they do not hold a candle to BR shirts. Especially since now the price is so close (I think Express is like ~60 and BR is around ~70).

what exactly is a 1MX shirt? I personally like to get my dress stuff at bannana republic, although it IS alot pricier, but definitely worth it

when on sale, BR is my default choice for dress shirts

I just saw that link after i posted, and yes those are the exact shirts I'm talking about. I love them! I have 3 different ones now, and if I landed this job that I got interviewed for today, I am going to get about 4 or 5 more. They fit perfectly, and I actually wore one to the interview this morning . You won't be disappointed with them.

EDIT2: WOAH they are only $30 now on sale ?!? I paid full price for the 3 I have now. Is that sale also instore does anyone know? Would like to go there tonight and get the black one if so

Dry cleaned or laundered and pressed at a dry cleaners? If you're only payin $1 a shirt, you're not getting it dry cleaned, it's just getting laundered.

They are being dry cleaned.

I finally returned the clothes to Express. The manager look really pissed off but didn't say much. So now I need to buy two more shirts to replace them for about the same price range.

I like J.Crew too. I have a lot of their winterish, fall stuff.
I've both ordered shirts from their catalog (Lands' End's, that is) and bought them at Sears...same great quality stuff. I machine wash cold, line/air dry. I'm average height (5'9") and skinny (130 lbs.). I wear a 32/16 shirt.[/quote]

Jumpr, are you talking about the Land's End 'slim cut' shirts? I want something that fits well, if I have to do the $30 BR shirts I will, but I have a feeling the Lands End stuff is going to last longer. They're both probably about the same quality, except that the Lands End ones are 100% cotton or 60/40 cotton/polyester, and the Banana ones are 97/3 just like Express. Seeing as how both of them are pretty much unlabeled I'd imagine the fit is more important than the label.

Oh, and I do have pics...I'll post them when I get back. My dry cleaners gave me a $25 credit (half the shirt value for each shirt plus repaying the original dry cleaning he screwed up) so that's the best I could ask for, I don't think it was anything they did, just that the dye was washing out.

What's wrong with washing stuff on cold and letting it hang dry? That's how I wash most of my stuff, exceipt maybe the whites. It's not like I go mud wrestling in my clothes so they don't get that dirty.

Just the fact you shouldn't have to. If a shirt says 'tumble low' I should be able to throw it in low and expect it to have no significant effect in the quality of the clothing. These shirts failed that test.

No. I'm not going to dry clean cotton shirts that I wear every day. The cheapest place around here is $3ish for a shirt, I have no clue where everyone else is getting the $.99 for dry cleaning from. That means I'd be spending $60 a month on dry cleaning which is just unacceptable. If it's a cotton shirt, it should be machine washable, period. They used cheap dyes, and obviously I'm on a budget since I'm buying $20 shirts in the first place.

Ouch, where do you live? I pay 1.25 a shirt max.

In South Florida we have a mall called Sawgrass that has all of the outlet stores such as
bananna republic, polo, gap, basically all of the kickass stores. And since they are all outlet stores
it is all on the cheap.

Why wash on warm, unless they are dirty? And why use the dryer? Unless of course you use a laundromat, then lugging back wet clothes would be impractical. But if you do it at home it's no different if you hang them wet or dry.

I pay $1.75 for my shirts - laundered and pressed. I had a long talk with the dry cleaner over these shirts. He said he would never dry clean a cotton shirt unless it was specifically requested. First of all, laundering them (in water) makes the press appear much firmer and more crisp, since the press is done when the shirts are wet. The dry cleaning would result in a less-crisp shirt, and dry cleaning is not nearly as effective as water is for normal stains. Fabrics that can be washed cold should be washed cold. Only things like wools, etc, should be dry cleaned.

I live in an apt without washer/dryer connections. Yes, I know it sucks, but I'm paying $500/mo for 640 sq ft which is killer.
