I am dropping Vonage.

I am gettting a combo deal for tv,internet and phone and am going to drop Vonage. I am wondering if they will want their router back?

Most likely, yes. But not to worry as the new provider
of your combo service will likely provide their own
preferred brand of router / modem combo.

In my experience with 3 VOIP providers, no, they don't ask for it back.

That said, there's not a lot that you can do with them unless you are very good at hacking firmware since they are programmed to their carrier and it's hard to convince them to do anything else.

did you like Vonage? My dad is thinking of trying it out for free or whatever kind of deal it is. We have verizion internet and I want to just upgrade and get one of their combo packs with internet and phone.

I have 1.5MB internet right now. Did your internet stay stable while using vonage? Should I expect low pings if I use vonage and I game online?

I mostly liked Vonage. It worked well enough, although we would occassionally have it go down on us on weekend. We had it for about 2 years. I installed the Vonage VOIP device behind my router so it didn't affect the latency at all.

I changed to AT&T CallVantage (Vonage left me the VOIP box and didn't want it back) - mostly the change was due to the problems with flaky weekend connections, but also we got a good deal for switching. CallVantage requires the VOIP box between the cable modem and the router, but my latency didn't change when I installed it.

I have a Vonage router at home. They can be hacked, but what's the point? For all the time I'd spend hacking it I'd be better off just buying a cheap one. I haven't the heart to dump it, so I may use it as an Ethernet switch and that's it.
