Man, I've been in very similar situations. I've tried joining the military 3 times, going to college, moving to Indianapolis for a coding job, and I've fallen flat on my face doing all of them. I've been really, really down.

My dream is to be a physicist, and I'm going to take on loans and go to college. You should think about joining the Air Force. They have a very nice tech training program. That's what I was going to do.

Best of luck on whatever you do.

You shouldn't look at this change as meaning that you are a failure. Managers make bad decisions all the time, and it's possible that the owner is making a bad one now. You could end up with a job that you like more than this one. You said you don't want to be in sales, so what you should do is look at what happened as a positive - you won't be doing a job you don't like. This could be the thing that opens the door to a much better job you never would have gone after if nothing had changed.

I know change can be scary, but the important thing is to look to the future and not the past. Don't think you are a loser. You're working for an associate's, and you'll get it. Think positively and maintain your confidence. Ask your school's career placement office for assistance - they sometimes have connections. And if you're in a pinch, grit your teeth and do something in retail for the Christmas season.

I have a good friend who was a VP of a chain of grocery stores. He voluntarily stepped down from being a VP to go back to being a store manager because the VP job required visiting stores all the time and he didn't want to do 14-hour days any more. When he got back in to the store manager job, his store had the highest sales in the whole chain. And - they fired him! He was fired because some big shot decided it "looked bad" for a former VP to be a store manager. So he ended up getting a much better job, with better hours, and a shorter commute. He never would have looked for that job if they hadn't fired him.

Things usually work out for the best. Look at this as an opportunity to explore something new that you wouldn't have had otherwise. Good luck!

I think you're making a big deal out of something not so big. First of all, you're not a loser. It just happened. This may be a prime opportunity for you to go out and do better things. Chin up, believe in yourself.

You are worthless and weak! What do you want to do with your life? I WANNA ROCK!!!!!!!!!

There is your answer, grab that guitar son and start jamming!

Just hang in there. I know exactly where you are coming from. Everyone has bad times, they honestly make you stronger in the end. A few years from now you can look back and laugh at the exepriences you encountered.

Chin up, smile on face, and make lemonaide with the lemons you have been given!

I?ve been having a rough year myself. I quit my last job due to financial and personal reasons. I wasn?t making much and after three years of working there I felt it was time to move on. Other reasons including a failed relationship only strengthened my decision to leave. I spent a couple of months hanging out with my family and working on other interests like reading, drawing, and improving my graphic design skills. Later I started working part time as a temp doing administrative assistance type stuff. I completely hate it and that?s what I?m still doing. I moved in with some friends and even though I work part time I make enough to pay the bills plus my parents have been super nice and help me out each month. I?m going through a career change now and I am trying to figure out what to do with my life. It?s not an easy thing to figure out. I have a few interests but the only thing I can imagine doing for the rest of my life would to be to work in the film industry. Well that?s an industry that?s damn near impossible to get into. I?m 26 and feel like I?m getting old. I?d love to go to grad school to study film but I feel I should work for at least a year to save up some money. It?s been a depressing year for me but for one reason or another I can look back at this past year and tell myself it wasn?t completely wasted. I managed to accomplish some goals. I got rid of a lot of problems and took up some new ones. The free time I have now is a blessing and it was a much-needed break from the many sleepless nights I put into that ungrateful company. This may not help you at all. Maybe I wrote this for myself to put things into perspective. Times are hard now, but I know life will be great once I get over this hurdle and take that next step. It?s just a matter of time. Make the most of what you have and have confidence in yourself. Good luck to you.

I thought you just got a job with the Federal Government.
What happened to that?

Nocturnal -

Sounds to me like you are at a somewhat defining time in your life.

16 credit hours eh? That is about 45 from an associate's degree. Perhaps find a P/T job, live at home if possible, and work on that school thing?

Definitely don't let this consume you...you are WAY to young to think that way, and have your whole life ahead of you.

People don't always work with what they love, but it doesn't mean that can't love their life.

Good luck to you Nocturnal, I wish you the best!

I work in a unrelated field.

I always found it easier to find a job, when I had a job.
If the market was bleak, I'd bite the bullet and stay.
If I found a job w/same pay & better advancement possibility's I'd tender my resignation.
Once I was offered more $ to stay on.

Best of luck.......................:sun:
