I am horribly slow at washing dishes.

Fiance cooks, I wash the dishes. Its a good system because I can't really cook.

But given the same amount of dishes...she totally owns me on the time it takes to do them. I HATE washing the dishes, yet I become anal about it...scrapping tiny food particles food off and rewashing until I'm sure its clean. And yet, when she washes them they seem to come out just as well. The only explaination is some how her increased amount of estrogen wills the food bits to fly off all on their own.

On a related note: We've instituted a new "one day I cook and she washes the dishes" day. Its worked out well so far, last week I got fairly drunk before I started cooking and I actually found the entire experience enjoyable. Now, whether I would have found toliet scrubbing or other things enjoyable at that level of intoxication remains to be seen. And it might not be a good idea mixing booze with knives, hot ovens and inexperience. Regardless, I plan to drink heavily before cooking sausage and egg mc-jesse-bagels tonight.

But don't worry, I was sure to let the dishes pile up in anticipation of today.

I just never understand you people. I had a friend that did it as well. He just enjoyed washing by hand he said. Buy some enzymatic detergent that will eat the dirt and any crappy dishwasher will get most dishes cleaner than you will by hand.

"you people"?

I thought dishwasher can't wash really clean, usually dish come out with oil still stick on the dish. That's why I use manual method.

i didn't read your post, but based on the title: me too.. I eventually talked my wife into letting the dishwasher loose... it's a real timesaver... and back-saver.

I don't see how oil would be stuck after a bunch of soap. Soap should take the oil off without problem. Dishwashers aren't perfect. If you have something baked on hard, you may need to wash it twice or to scrub a little section. But I'd rather scrub one pan than a whole dishwasher full of stuff. The key though is to buy detergent with active enzymes - its much better than detergent from even 10 years ago.

Yeah, and use some common sense when loading the dishwasher. At least rinse them off a little before you put 'em in there. That way the stuff doesn't dry and cake on while it's sitting in the dishwasher until you run it.
