I cannot believe it! My sister is getting married. She just turned 19 and announced she and her 30 year old b/f are getting married SOON (like within the next few weeks). My body feels numb. You know how you normally are happy for people getting married? My first impression thinks this is a bad thing all the way around. I'm 21. I'm supposed to be the 'big brother' here. My own parents were a match-made in hell, and I think my sister may be going down the same path. F***!!! S***!! G** D*****!! I know my sister is happy, they do make a good couple. But she's only 19 freakin years old!!!! I don't know what to do. Should I just suck it up? I don't know if I could stop her, or if I should. I feel really lost right now.

It's her life. Let her live it. It may be good, it may be bad. It may hurt you to see her hurt, but if it's a mistake, she will learn from it, and probably be a wiser person.

It being your sister and such an important event in her life. atleast talk to her and tell her how you feel about her getting married. be the person to make sure she is SURE this is a decision she is not going to regret. If she is positive about her decision, i guess support her as best you can

Oh man, maybe I failed as a brother. Here I am livin' it up at college and she's trying to make a life for her own with a GED and 2 jobs. My time could have been better spent if I was more of an influence instead of concentrating on my own crap.

If she's happy, and you think she'll be happy in her marriage, you should just suck it up and be happy for her.

I wish it were that easy. I'm too young to have a married-younger sister. I was not planning on this situation for atleast another 5-10 years!

LOL... NFS4... who knows... this might workout. Scrapster you know the guy well? You think they make a good couple, why get all worked up because of your sister's age? How long have they been seeing each other?

edit: Problems in the past, hopefully he learned from them and this is 'it.'

I think you need to let it go. It sounds like you're upset because she's younger than you and getting married. That is irrelevant, she's been with this guy for a few years and is happy. You should be happy he's older, he should have learned how to treat a lady. Guys her own age will just screw her over.

scrapster, As lily27 said.. talk to her. make the most of the next few weeks, it could be her bf wanted to get married, and she jumped on it.

However I do agree 19 is a little too young.

Woah... before 16? Damn... from an outside view, isn't that illegal? How'd they meet? But since they've been together for a decent amount of time, you should have less to worry about. Now if this was like a one week thing and it was my sister, I'd hunt this f%&@#$* down.

Hmm.. the best thing would be what lily said. The best thing to do now is to talk to her, and your parents. TO me , a marriage is still a big thing and divorce should not even be considered by anyone who knows the couple. I know she might say that she is old enough to make her own decisions, yes she is right, but dating this guy since 16 means she might not know what she should expect.

Did she live with him for a long time (them alone) before? if not try to make them live together for a year or so before they tie the knot. Hope it does workout fine..

Maybe. Though I certainly wouldn't have a problem if I wasn't married at 30 and she decides to get married at 28.

This whole thing is just a big shock. I can't think rationally about this now.

This is exactly where I'm coming from. This has basically been her first and only boyfriend. I'm sorry, but I'd rather she get screwed over by a bunch of guys if one day --far from now-- she will meet mr. right and live a long and happy marriage.

My friend and I had a talk last night about his GF. I'm 23 and he's 22. He told me that his GF (20) mentioned the big "M" word yesterday. He told me he's feeling scared to death Although we are officially adults, we're really still at the "kid" stage mentally. WE agree that eventhough we are mature adults, we still don't want to "grow up" yet. You're a kid for only 1/5th of your life. Once you decide to leave this stage, there's no turning back. Your sister is 19, she still doesn't understand fully what being a "kid" means yet. Try to get her to go to college.

Well maybe she got lucky and met mr. right in the first round! Feel good for her. Be... cautiously optimistic about this whole deal.

I think it is immature and uncalled for to try to break them up. To be at peace with yourself you should talk to both him and her separately and tell them how you feel. Tell them her young age makes you worry. Once you've done that you need to live with the results. You have no idea how good their relationship is because you're not part of it.

Not to be rude, but has the thought crossed your mind that she might be pregnant and wants to marry before the birth? I mean only waiting a few weeks after their announcement makes me wonder.

Watch it there fellow, my wife is much younger as well. Us older guys can't help it if some younger women prefer us over "boys".

I think it is immature and uncalled for to try to break them up.

I didn't say they shouldn't be together. They are obviously a happy couple. I just don't see why they would rush into marriage. What if this doesn't work out? My sister wouldn't be able to simply say "see ya" and be done with him. She would be legally bound.

...wondering how a person could stop a wedding...

has the thought crossed your mind that she might be pregnant and wants to marry before the birth?

No it hasn't. And it won't until I hear otherwise.

I'm with Midnight Rambler, I'd prefer a younger woman. Just keep in mind that women mature differently than men.
