Do what I do.

Get a Google Voice number.

Use that number in your CL ads and say you will only respond to text/call inquiries.

Sell your shit.

Been working for me.

Wading through the email exchanges is not such a terrible ordeal, but when I get in my car to go meet you to sell something and you don't show, I'm going to be pissed.
Let them come to you.

Vehicle was sold at the local gas station corner.5 minute walk after the sale.

Seems like you just are not good at handling selling of items or the promotion of such:\

I advised him to stand on the corner in his assless leather chaps with a "Stuff for sale - ask me about it!" sign. We'll see what the results turn out to be. :hmm:

I feel the same way.

I get alot of emails asking too many questions and then no follow ups.

So what, that means they're not interested.

Or emails asking if it's still available and no follow up..

I call stores all the time asking if something is in stock, and guess what, often times I won't buy it at that store!

or extreme low balls.

I realized that these are only people willing to buy your thing if they can get it for a song. I agree that they are lame but it may also be that your price is WAY too high. I like lowballing people just to be a jerk when they list things like their used 2 year old motorcycle for more than I can buy a brand new one at the dealership. There are retards on both sides of the fence.

LOL!
Since I bought this farm, I have been selling off all the crap I don't want or need, like the picket fence, an extra shed, fence posts, etc.
Learned real fast to price stuff about 20% more than you want, as it seems that most people absolutely will not buy anything if they can't barter you down.
Been selling everything now for pretty much what I really wanted for it!

Of course you have the Nigerian scammers! I have an 18' x 33' Above ground pool listed now, have had several "Is the item still available, I am satisfied with it's condition" e-mails! Sure thing pal, we'll see about shipping that to your niece in Africa!

Couple months ago, had a car for sale or trade for a farm truck, guy e-mailed me with a truck for trade, wanted to meet halfway.
He shows up in a car, says the truck looks better than the one across the road (New looking nice pickup) but he didn't drive it because the transmission was shifting erratically. I drive to his house to look at the truck, and I have seen better looking vehicles abandoned on the side of the road! Even the drivers door hinge was rusted off!
I declined the trade, but he asked if I would drive it & see if I can tell what was wrong with the trans. Well, the reason it was shifting funny was because the damned thing was trying to die every 10 seconds! Transmission won't shift without torque, LOL!
Guy still e-mails me every couple weeks to see if I have changed my mind, and this is AFTER I told him he would be better off selling it to a scrap yard!

I love how in all of these threads, people seem to blame CL for a problem that has nothing to do with CL. Some people just like to window shop, and some people are just shitty people. If you owned a storefront, or if you put your ad in the classifieds as has been done since the invention of the printing press, you would still be dealing with these types of people.

If you're buying on CL, don't be an asshole. If you're selling on CL, for starters don't act like your shit doesn't stink, price it appropriately. If no one is buying, lower your price. If people are waffling on you, lay down the law. I did that two weeks ago, a guy refused to come to my house to pick up a calculator. I said fine, I'm selling it to the next person in line. Problem solved.

I've sold 2 cars and bought 3 motorcycles through CL. All have been great experiences because it was a deal between me and a person, CL had nothing to do with how smoothly the transaction went.

It's not against the TOS to sell a salvage titled vehicle on CL. If you're automatically going to pull a Carfax on every single car you come across, why would you buy anything but a full Carfax membership?

this. i bought the 5 pack, because i did want to track the car i was serious about. i looked at about 40 cars, only actually checked carfax on 4 of them, the last one being the one i bought. gotta know when its worth it, otherwise buy the unlimited if youre going to check everyones cars. i had 2 of the sellers ask if they could have my carfax print outs. i told them 15 bucks and id give it to them lol.

Obviously... but when you call/email them and specifically ask if it's salvaged etc., or it's written in their ad that the car has a clean title, and then they send you a VIN for a car that clearly doesn't have a clean title... that's when I take issue.

CL is a useful tool. It helps you find people that want your stuff or vice versa. Being that it is free, you're going to have to deal with some crap.

I have recently bought and sold a few items (this month), and each interaction was easy. One such instance I bought a good amount of olympic weights and racks. Guy even gave me some extra weights that weren't originally offered because he had no use for them. Gave him the money, and he helped me load it all up. Easy as pie, a couple emails exchanged and I got what I wanted at half the price of new.

Also sold a cable modem. Got one bite early, but she didn't need the DOCSIS 3.0 stuff, so she'd opted not to buy it after discussing it with her tech buddy. Few days later, got another bite and knocked the price down 10 and met him over lunch. Just gotta make sure that any meetings you set up are convenient for you. But I have yet to have someone not show up.

Overall, I think it's awesome. I have scored a ton of really cool music stuff at more than reasonable prices. It's just that selling can be a bit of a different animal.

If it's under $50 I don't deal with CL or Ebay as far as selling stuff. It's just too much of a pain in the ass to deal with either to make maybe $35 when it's all said and done. The time and hassle just isn't worth it.

I'll buy all sorts of piddly stuff on ebay though

Used to be able to sell and make money on CL. Nowadays, everyone want pennies on a dollar.

When I was looking, I hated dealing with people selling their shit cars on Craigslist. "Good condition" to them mean it was still drivable. Paint peeling? Messed up interior? Engine problems? "Good condition!"

I don't believe that to be true at all. The larger the customer base, the harder it is to avoid the power of the economic hand. Large amounts of buyers and sellers means prices gravitate towards the point that supply and demand takes over. This is what has happened to ebay - it is nigh on impossible to get a deal when there are 10 other people bidding on it, and if you want something that is for sale from 10 or 15 different sellers, the price is pretty much set by the market.

When customers and sellers are few and far between, then you can score deals, buying or selling, but it takes a lot longer, or you sell it for much less than you want, or you buy it for much more than you want. CL in my area has a huge customer base so you pretty much will get what you want for it if you wait a while.

Yeah, you guys are right. If you want an honest sales pitch, you're going to have to go to a used car dealership.
