I am Legend question

Was it a trap he set and forgot about or did they set the trap? Or was there some other explanation?

The common explanation is the zombies did it after seeing him do it first. This is further emphasized by the zombies moving the mannequin near the trap to bait him.

I figured thats the story... but they never saw him do it, only the end result. I know the movie portrayed that in a much dumber light than the book did ( i didn't read it) but it seems to contrast a bit much with any other signs of intelligence they display.

Plus is was tit for tat...this was to show the 'zombies' were not just mindless creatures. The alpha male was upset his woman was taken and wanted the main character to get that message.

I read the book and this wasn't part of it. The book is VERY different from the movie. So different that the movie shouldn't even be connected to the book.

It's only a short story, so I'd be surprised if there was any need for cliff notes. It's only 170 pages which is easily finished in a couple days.

The most striking difference is the meaning of the title. All the other changes are unimportant IMO, but they should have left that alone.

Having not read the book, I took it as a marker of his mental deterioration; he's set up traps for years and when he finds someone off in the distance who resembles his imaginary friend, he loses his mind for a bit and falls into his own doing.

Would have only stopped some of the zombies...he knew he was dead...they could have gotten in the hatch.

He sacrificed himself taking out as many as he could.

If you're at Blockbuster, rent "The Omega Man" with Burt Lancaster or was it that Planet of the Apes/ NRA Guy.... That movie was a bit more scary, but sometimes it got lost in the middle. Anyway, the zombies talked in that one..
