I am officially "used" to Windows 8.

Thought I'd counter some of the hate threads

I have dual boot WIN 7 and WIN 8 on my primary desk top PC. I have been using Windows 8 for a few months now. I'm pretty much used to it, I have Classic Shell installed. I booted into WIN 7 last night accidentally, and went so far as to reboot the PC to get back into WIN 8. I don't use a lot of keyboard shortcuts, but moving around using the charm bar and switching from desktop back and forth seems second nature now. I do like going into the app store and downloading apps and stuff on the laptop, although I do it rarely on the desktop.
I still have a few quirks to work out, but I think it can be done, I have just been too lazy. I like the live tiles with weather and my apps etc. but then again I liked Vista's Dreamscene content
I can understand new users frustration, but if you stick with it for a while, it gets better imho.

turned off most of the windows 8 annoyances thru reg hacks, much more palatable now.

I've liked a lot of Microsoft operating systems,don't get me wrong none are perfect but I'm using Win8 without any third party Start button mod,its stable ,fast and everything I've just works,what more can I ask?..anyway I look forward to Windows Blue and Win9 etc..

I just subconsciously press enter whenever I boot up my machine; barely notice the "Start" screen now. guess I'm used to it.

I removed the lock screen and made sure that none of the Metro/Modern apps are defaults to open any files, and that was good enough for me.

I'm sure I would like Classic Shell or Start 8, but it just feels like too much of a "crutch" for me. I'd prefer to just learn the OS as it was intended to be, not hack it to bits to make it just like Windows 7 was. If I wanted that, I would have just used Windows 7.

So...in summary, +1 for "it's not so bad once you give it some time".

Even if you customize windows 8 to the closest way to resemble windows 7, you won't change very much nothing about the appearance, to me it is dealbreaker as the eye strain is unbearable.

I like win8 on a system that has a touch screen but hate it on a traditional PC. I am looking for a nice/cheap win8 touchscreen laptop at the moment. I see win8 and win7 living together for a long time.

Exactly. I finally just gave up trying to use Metro Apps - they are just too annoying on a desktop (or my laptop docked to a 24" monitor). After unintalling all Metro Apps and a fair amount of registry changes, I'm fine with Win8 now.

Win 8 would be ok if it didnt exsist on desktops. Fine for tablets or laptops with touchscreens, not so much for desktops.

Without Start8, there is no way I could use Windows 8. With start8, Windows 8 is great. So, since I am basically circumventing the whole UI paradigm and premise of Windows 8, I technically am not 'used' to Windows 8. I am happy using the Windows 7 Desktop emulator within the Windows 8 shell.
