I AM PANICING!

Okay, so I'm not a complete idiot, I do back up my flash drive when I am at home. Unfotunately I have a number of group projects and I've stored their information on my drive.

My flash drive has lost its file table, and when plugged in to my mac it says it can't read the media, when I try to open it in windows I get the "This disk is not formatted" box...I've tried a number of file recovery software packages (recuva won't touch it) and BadCopy Pro (40 bucks, OUCH!) Bad copy has some success I get I think most of the files back but they are corrupted to verying degrees...

What other software out there can save my ass?

Triple backup: computer drive(s), online (mail, Gmail), disc media (CD/DVD).

Yeah, I was heading from our computer lab to my house and planned on backing it up when I got home, aparently it was corrupt by the time I got home

Possibly load up a Linux distro and see if it can read it? Mac OS is Linux based, afterall.

I've used PC Inspector File recovery in the past with some success, but if you were able to get the files back and they were corrupted, not sure if you'll have much luck.

some of the files were too large for e-mail or my skydrive or me.com

I use a software called "getdataback" for windows. It's very small... quick torrent and you're ready to go. Or I think you can also purchase & download it.

It works great for everything from "oh shit i didn't want to delete that file" to "oh shit my hard drive ticks of death"

I have used winhex for this for years and recover stuff 9 times out of 10.

The problem with winhex is that you have to know what you are doing. If you don't understand things like clusters and are not comfortable reading hex then it isn't the program for you.

one tip about flash drives. They NEVER delete the data unless you overwrite the information. A format does not remove the data. Format any flash drive then load it in winhex and I can still get it all back.
Same goes for hard drives in windows. A format, not even full format , does not erase the data, just the fat.

Find a data recovery tool. A flash stick of mine "died" earlier this year, requiring a format. Some free tool I downloaded was able to recover *most* of my files.

Another vote for R-Studio. Somehow I hosed the file table for my 1TB drive that was almost half full. After some research I came across a post talking about R-Studio. Downloaded the demo to see what it could recover. Ended up purchasing the NTFS version and recovered all 450GB off my portable drive. Worth every penny.

Reformat the drive and restore your backup to it. I've had them get corrupted at times. Sometimes it's dead though, they do have limited read/write cycles unlike magnetic media.
