I am really sick of Windows

I have suse 10 but I need support for my motorola razr phone which I use as a modem to connect to the internet.
can somebody point me to a linux install that will support my modem or to the drivers for my modem for suse 10.

I am not very familar with Cell phone technology. I don't think that any Linux distro will be able to use the phone directly 'out of the box', but I expect that all of them would be able to use it with a little configuring.

This is a GSM phone with a GPRS modem, or something like that, right?

I donno.

Maybe try Ubuntu live cdrom. Boot it up, open up a terminal.
In that terminal type dmesg and see the kernel logging stuff.
Then plug in your modem into the computer and run dmesg again and see if it recognizes it and connects to it like a serial device.

Then using that try to use Ubuntu's network configuration stuff to setup a PPP connection using it like a modem.

Not sure how far you will get, but it's worth a try to see at least if it gets recognized.

I don't know about razr support but I've been playing around with ubuntu for a few months now and its nice, very user friendly and very easy to learn so far.

You might get away with an NDIS wrapper if the only drivers you can find are for Windows.

I ordered a pre-burnt CD of ubuntu, it should be here in a few days and I can play and test over the weekend.

Be aware, there is a new version of UBUNTU that should be shipping in the next 2 weeks. If you ordered it now, you are prob going to get v6.10 instead of v7.04

I think Ubuntu is almost as easy to use as Mac, and much easier than Windows. Some say is it as easy to use as Mac.

Also, wait for Ubuntu 7. Comes out on the 19th I think. Is supposed to detect every possible peripheral and cure world hunger at the same time.

Why FC over Ubuntu? I tried both when I started using Linux and IMO Ubuntu is better simply because apt is better (faster) than yum.

Fedora core generally has slightly newer stuff.

When picking out a distribution it's kinda important to find ones that match your own sensibilities about things. Everybody has different policies about stuff... Most people will end up trying a few different distributions until they find the one they like.

That's all true. IMHO Fedora is a linux distro that is bleeding edge to the max but still a solid one. Tell you what, go here download the Fedora 7 test 3 CD and give it a shot, you will like it and I am sure of it
Current version is Fedora Core 6, but Fedora 7 will be released May 24th

Personally I never liked Fedora much because it always felt so damn bloated.
I haven't tried it since FC4 or 5 though, maybe it's gotten better, but back then the entire system pretty much felt significantly more sluggish than Ubuntu.
Well, that and YUM sucks compared to APT

Plus, who cares if the software is a few weeks more current?
Both release on a ~6 month schedule, it's not like Ubuntu is gonna be stuck with Xfree86 4.4 while FC is running X.org 7-2. etc, more like X.org 7.2 vs X.org 7.2.1 type differences.

Fedora has more things like better SELinux support, stateless Linux, Fedora LDAP server, and other things like that.

It depends on the sort of stuff your looking for.

Plus I think that from Reviews I've heard Fedora has done a lot to make their system fast, but I don't know that for a fact.

Right.... and last time I tried to install a stable Ubuntu it failed to install on 7 different systems which is one of the main reasons I went with Fedora back then and now I still like it more, but that doesn't make my argument worth much does it?

Well, that and YUM sucks compared to APT
YUM was much slower than APT and now is only a bit slower than APT, yet that doesn't mean YUM doesn't have it's own advantages over APT too.
And if someone likes APT so much they can have that on Fedora right next to YUM and in addiiton to Synaptics package manager if they like.

It wouldn't hurt you to give Fedora 7's live cd / install cd a shot and update that info of your's a bit
