its been said many times,at least on the MSI board,that using the 3 and 4 SATA ports will correct this problem. just don't use 1 and 2.

I'm guessing that you didn't read the OP, since its a ASUS board and uses the SI3114 SATA controller.

If the PCI card didn't help, it could possibly be the HDD. Do you have other SATA drives you can use to check if thats the problem?

That's well and good, if you're using only two devices, but I have four. (it helps to follow entire thread...)

Not to be offensive or anything but I think I pointed out that I used both sets of ports. See below, I said that quite early on in the thread.

I did try the drives on 1, 2, 3, and 4 SATA ports.

I will try disabling the SATA and putting back the IDE drives just to see what happens.

And to others interested I still haven't been able to do the said testing I would do yesterday. I had a hockey game got nailed with a slapshot in the side of my knee... let me tell you that does not feel anything NEAR good.

I'll try and do that stuff tonight and post my findings. So far I'm chugging along without a single glitch at 2665 as long as I boot off the IDE.

It really comes down to the SATA controller on the MB. If I place the SATA drives back on the onboard, they don't even get detected at the BIOS level during boot.

Install the PCI SATA controller and all is good as long as I boot off the IDE.

I have that trouble as well, At the minute I have to remove 2 drives from the motherboard or they just dissappear from windows when writing to them, reading seems to be ok though?

Asus tech suppt just sent me another beta bios 1007-003 that is supposed to enhance SATA compatibility. PM me if interested.
