holy crap i think i might have just screwed myself big time. i just got most of the components i am using to build my new system (p3 866 on cusl2 motherboard). i tried mounting the heatsink that came with the retail pentium 3 (socket 370) and it took me several hours. at first i tried attaching the clips as delicately as possible, but after hours of frustration i just gave up and grabbed a pair of needle nose plier and practically forced the clips in. they did indeed go in, but the problem is i am not sure if the processor will even work now. the first several attempts at mounting the heatsink were unsuccessful...and when i lifted it up to see the bottom, the white stuff below the heatsink was scraped off pretty badly and was stuck to the core of the processor. at first i was worried but i didnt really think anything of it. unfortunately, my case and power supply has not yet arrived, so i am unable to test it out. after i was done a few minutes ago i read on a website that you can void the warranty if you try to install this yourself or something (?). and supposedly the heatsink that comes with the pentium 3 is not similar to other retail heatsinks and is much more difficult to install and remove. is this true? if so then i swear to god that this is possibly the worst mistake of my entire life to try to install this sh!t and risk f@*king up the processor..at the same time voiding the warranty.
