Win2k is the last OS from MS I'll use. My next OS will be Linux or any other fancy OS which can replace Windows at that time.

winxp offers no compelling reason to upgrade, even if i didnt like win2k (which i certainly do).

I'll stick with 2K for now. After a few months and a few updates to XP are out I'll probably pick it up then.

I have been running Win2K since it was in pre-release beta testing.... I really like Win2K.

However, with my Win2K setup, I had to load the VIA 4 in 1 drivers, I had to load service pack 2, I had to load DX 8.0a. I also had lockup probs with my AMD rig and had to load a special patch that addressed the issue.

I had to do none of these things with WinXP. I had to load 2 driver (one for soundcard one for Geforce3). The WinXP box runs just as fast as my Win2K box ever did.

I loaded WinXP on a spare hard drive and played with it for a few hours. I went back to my Win2K load and it just plain looked boring. Shell enhancements of WinXP are really nice. I loaded WinXP on my main HDU that very night.

I upgraded my fiancee's Sony VAIO (with lots of weird laptop style hardware) from WinMe to WinXP. Upgrade went without a hitch. Everything actually works (accept her VPN software which shouldn't surprise anyone).

My question is why wouldn't you want to run the latest OS from MS based on the NT kernel?

WPA is more then enough reason for most people.
I'm running XP and I have no intention of going back to Win2k, but if your content with Win2k and don't need a flashy GUI at the cost of lower performance then there is little clear need to upgrade.

It requires 4 changes to the system hardware before WPA kicks in and tries to make you re-register. Additionally there is now a simple trick to backup your WPA file after registration and re-install it if you have to reload. The average consumer will never change enough on their XP system to need to worry about WPA. The average hacker/power user can find about 20 ways around WPA. I don't think WPA is the multi-headed monster people make it out to be.

WinXP is actually nice, but I can't believe no one has said this yet,.... it's ME for Windows 2000. If I didn't know how to make a bootable

CD I'd be impressed that the lastest drivers for things were included, well almost the lastest drivers anyway, for now. All and all it's not a

bad OS, even when it was called Windows 2000.

Thanks for the car compliment!

As to WinXP being ME for Win2K, that's just plain not the case, the media integration of XP is way deeper than it ever was in ME. Read the full breakdown review at the Windows Supersite to see what I mean!

It will be difficult for those of you staying with Win 2K. Every day for the next year or two you'll be bombarded daily with "XP this, XP that" in the media and on BBSes across the country. Some of you will not be able to stand that kind of peer pressure. Good luck.

He He...I know this is off the original post a little, But I will be sticking it out with my Win98. At least until service pack 1 or 2. Fits all my gaming needs just fine and is actually very stable for me. Good setups or good luck, don't know which, but it works....
