I believe I may be developing Reactive Arthritis

Due to my recent bacterial infection, which I believe to be food poisoning, I ever so generously received infectious dysentery.

Since my fever, vomiting, and dysentery have all seemed to clear up, I have noticed joint pain, mild conjunctivitis, and burning during urination.
The three clear signs of Reactive Arthritis activated by one of two things. Bacteria Chlamydia, or a Bacterial bowel infection, which I had.

I'm looking forward to all the missed work and all the money I am going to have to dump into this often times debilitating disease.

Does anyone hear have or know someone who has Reactive Arthritis, otherwise known as Reiter Syndrome?

*sigh*

stopped google searching diseases you think you might have. it will only cause worry and most likely isn't what you have going on.

joint pain is probably just achiness left over from your food poisoning bout.
mild conjunctivis could be viral and will clear up on its' own.
buring upon urination could be a simple uti.

Yes. You are right, it could be. And I told myself that when I had the burning during and in between urination. I was not going to let that bother me. I thought it was the cipro.
Then the joint pain. It was hard to even bend over because my hip joints were inflammed.
Then I woke up this morning with one eye badly bloodshot.
All inflammations.

If it disappears and never comes back that's soo 150% cool with me.
So I really hope you are right.

never heard of it. but hope you get over it soon.

You don't really get over it. It just leads to other complications.

According to this there is a good chance that you can recover completely even if you really do have Reiter Syndrome. I hope you'll be okay.

"Most people with Reiter's syndrome recover fully from the initial flare of symptoms and are able to return to regular activities within 2 to 6 months after the first symptoms appear. Arthritis may last up to 6 months, although the symptoms are usually very mild and do not interfere with daily activities. Only 20 percent of people with Reiter's syndrome will have chronic arthritis, which is usually mild. Some patients experience symptom recurrence. Studies show that about 15 to 50 percent of patients will develop symptoms sometime after the initial flare has disappeared. Back pain and arthritis are the symptoms that most commonly reappear. A small percentage of patients will have deforming arthritis and severe symptoms that are difficult to control with treatment. "

oh. here i was thinking a doc told him he had it.

pfft don't worry about it until the doctor says you have it. even then do what needs to be done and don't worry about it.

life goes on.

When I took cipro for a week, my hips, thighs, and lower back hurt enough that I couldn't fall asleep at night. Some Advil took care of it for me though.

My doctor decided to give me a second prescription after my first week was over. In the middle of the second prescription, I forgot to take the cipro for two days and the pain started to go away. When I remembered again, the pain came back in full force. That's when I realized that it might have been the cipro so I did a quick google search and it seems that a lot of people had very similar symptoms.

I think it took another two weeks after my second prescription ended before I stopped feeling the pains.

I'm worried because my father had rheumatoid arthritis at such a young age, around mine, and his spine fused. He had a ton of other arthritis problems and was on drugs for most of his life.
He fell a few months ago, and due to his arthritis, could not lift his arms, nor could he bend his body in any way, to protect his head. His rigid neck bones broke when his head made contact with the floor.
My sister has arthritic tendancies and sciatica and she is only 27.
My brother has bad arthritis in his hands and knees and he is 24.
I am 25 and have so far been able to stay away from the disease.
