At last year's Defcon in Vegas, I carried my company-issued blackberry around all day, every day. I normally only carry to and from work, and then from desk to conference room. It otherwise spends its time on the desk or backpack.
Near the end of the weekend, I began to feel a dull pain in my lower back on the right side of the spine. At the time, I attributed it to sleeping awkwardly in a hotel bed while inhebriated and spending alot of time on my feet wearing flipflops.
Later that night at Nine Fine Irishmen, I actually sought out a female-unit to give me a lower back massage on the spot in exchange for a stool. She worked out every stiffness above my belt, save for the dull pain in my lower back.
The next evening I flew home with increasing discomfort. Took a cab ride home with increasing discomfort. Tried going to bed with increasing discomfort. I woke up at 3am laying on my back, feeling like something inside me was a) bleeding b) going to blow up and start bleeding very soon.. I could feel a bit of pressure in my lower back with each beat of my heart.
Right then, I decided to head to the ER for some reassurance.. After an MRI, they were able to see a grain-of-sand sized gallstone in my early 20's gallbladder. I'm 6' at 160lbs, so it didn't make too much sense to anyone.. but hey, I guess it happens right? Procured some Vicodin and Ibuprofin, and was off home again. They said it would either 'pass' and be the most painful thing I've ever felt, or dissolve. Only 5 weeks later was the pain entirely gone.
Now for the blackberry correlation...!
While laying in bed, eyes closed, and as relaxed as I could be, I had a lady friend move the blackberry over my lower back without me seeing/hearing any movement. I would then identify when the blackberry was in proximity of my lower back due to slowly increasing pain over a few seconds.. To her dismay in causing me pain, I was able to identify each and everytime the blackberry was moved over my lower back.
To this day, I still feel some weirdness when I carry the BB (now an 8800) on my belt.. as if a microwave is slowly cooking my organs.
Has anyone else felt discomfort like this from a radio transmitter...? wireless card, microwave, whatever..
