And that's in a "grocery getter" Altima 3.5 SE.

Which starts at $24k MSRP.

Heh, wasn't trying to bash the V6 'stang, someone was saying the 4.0L V6 was the holy grail of motors.

I think its OK. Truth is most chicks don't know the difference between V6 or V8 etc etc. No one is going to mistake it for a Viper, but I think it's a fine car.

Can anyone find dyno charts for the new mustang v6?

i wanna see how it stacks up to the others mentioned, including:

Toyota 2GR-FE 3.5L V6:

272 HP @ 6200 RPM
254 ft-lbs @ 4700 RPM

The 2GR-FSE with direct injection is:

315 HP @ 6400 RPM
277 ft-lbs @ 4800 RPM

Don't forget the 2JZ-GTE 3.0L I6, granted that one is turbo:

320 HP @ 5600 RPM
315 TQ @ 4000 RPM

VQ35DE ? 3.5-liter DOHC 24-valve V6
Horsepower ? 270 hp @ 6,000 rpm
Torque ? 258 lb-ft @ 4,400 rpm

Anyone got dynos for these?

marginally more torque, at a much higher RPM. i wouldn't be surprised if that 4 liter truck engine in the mustang had a flat torque curve like a V8. that is, until the upper reaches (which you don't get to in daily driving) the V6 mustang probably has more torque than any of the motors mentioned here, by a whole lot.

and no, 5 more torques at 800 rpm higher is not 'better'

anyway, V6 mustang with that truck engine is probably more fun to drive than with it would be with a higher torque, higher strung motor like the camry's 6. (or nissan's, or bmw's, etc etc)

and all you bmw employees talking trash about the engine: remember that the V6 mustang is the second cheapest car on the ford lot.

Congrats on your purchase. 5-spd manual and RWD is fun to drive. Much more than the boring FWD grocery getters.
The aftermarket support for mods on this platform is pretty good.

People shutup about the 4.0l v6. Its the BASE ENGINE its not suppost to impress you. Ford could put their new 3.5l 250+hp v6 in it but then it might make people less likely to fork out the extra bucks for the GT.

Congrats on your new car! I like the design of the new mustang. As long as you're happy with your ride and it gets you from point a to point b it's all worth it.

I love my 1GR-FE 4.0L V6

It's the darkest blue color option available.

As far as why I bought it now, well, I can afford it, and I couldn't expect my focus with 150k miles and missing hubcaps to last forever. No hope of parental hand me downs.

As far as the dealership having their way with me on the warranty, I honestly don't mind that much.

They can have their $1000 in pure profit or whatever, considering the financing miracle they worked for me.

The engine is a bit noisy at high rpms. My friend was insisting that his 2005 scion tc automatic with it's cold air intake and folgers premium exhaust could defeat me.

He was wrong.

Even with uncle ben giving him the best rice advice there is, he was soundly beaten.

Three times.

As mentioned earlier, it's ok dude. If you are satisfied, there is only one more person to satisfy, and that is the guy who looks back at you when you shave in the morning. If both of you are grinnin, then it's gonna be a great day. Enjoy your Mustang. They're a sharp looking, fun to drive car.

And BMW's are crap for maintenance costs, for all those spouting the greatness of them. I have worked in dealerships that sold them, and they are not all that reliable, and they really get your wallet in the service department. If you think you're gonna get a brake job for $200, like most domestic cars, your beemer will give you an eye opener.

Congrats

I find it really funny to hear all these idiots saying "you bought a Ford...BIG mistake". All cars on the road are built like crap...its the industry standard.

I'm sure you'll enjoy the car...but extended warranty for $1600??? nearly 10% of the car??? Get rid of the extended warranty ASAP.

That's the first thing I saw too :Q! My pappy mobile has less displacement (3.5) and puts out more horsepower and torque.

I'm glad you bought an extended warranty. People who think they are being intelligent, by not buying the warranty, almost always get owned in the end.

As per Mr. Murphy's advice, if you buy it, you won't have problems, if you don't, you will .

That's a nice car. If you like it and you're happy with the payment terms/warranty/etc....then congratulations....enjoy your new car.

No one's ragging on anyone.. the guy came here and asked if he made a good decision. Technically, he should've asked this before he bought the car .

Hey, sign me up

Nice car, nice price. Don't let the ATOT folk rag on it. No one needs the V8, the V6 actually has good pep in it's step. Plus, you save on gas...?

Wouldn't mind some pics in the OP also.

Why do the ricers always have to bring up the hp/liter argument? IT MEANS NOTHING. (and it makes you look like an idiot)

You should mention in your poll that it is a 2007 V6 Mustang, which is a bad move, as opposed to a V8 Mustang, which is a good move.

Thanks.

No-one said that and you'd have to be an idiot to infer it from what has been said.

Having a torque peak at 4,400 RPM isn't a good comparison though, and at 3.5 litres, you're coming close to the displacement of the 4.0. The Nissan engine there has most of its torque at high RPM, the Ford 4.0 has the majority of its torque at low RPM, bad for HP, but good for feeling stronger around town.

In terms of engine design, there are compromises. Especially so with naturally-aspirated engines. You can have a mountain of torque at low RPM and let high RPM suffer, or you can have the reverse. The 4.0 is a solid engine and for the price it cannot be beaten. It also has desireable torque characteristics that, so far, have only been comparable to a couple engines named so far (Merceded V6 from the E320, BMW I6 from the E36 M3, and the new 4.0 litre Nissan VQ engine), all of which cost significantly more.

If you want to know what I really think is the holy grail of engines... Link.

Ward's doesn't seem to agree with you...

I don't see why not if the VQ has made it for the past 12 years. I guess they like to stick to mainstream. Nevermind the fact that it's probably one of the most reliable engines above 350hp.

yeh good luck with that... base model V8 is now 300HP.. change exhaust and add supercharger ort Turbo or dual turbo to a GT for 450HP+ for less money than he paid new for a POS v6..

V6 needs an dual exhaust change as well as a new rearend and fuel system as well as a different tranny gearing to get any serious power outa it..

please Learn2Stang

V8 Stangs are the flat out cheapest key to wild performance in the V8 world..

Stock they are clogged like Al Bundys Toilet... unclog that exhaust and get it breathing and the horsepower just flows out... CHEAPLY
