I was hoping this thread would be about a Roush Mustang.

You are absolutely correct. For me I wanted a car I could use as a DD run down the track, autocross and keept it reasonably priced. And that's what I got.

600 - 700 - 800rwhp IS ABSOLUTELY UNDRIVABLE..... ok for a track car for not a DD..... Also that kind of power requires serious suspenssion work to have any traction...

Most people do not understand what it is to have to drive a 600RWHP with a stage 4+ clutch and a solid "live" axel on the rain!!! It gets old very quickly....

Again nice choice of car for the money!!

because most people like to drive their cars more then 40k miles between engine rebuilds. And thats a turbo.

After test driving a Mustang (V6 w/ leather) I have a new appreciation for the car now. Though I do admit that I voted "bad move" a day or two ago, but if I could, I'd take my vote back and vote "good move." The interior wasn't as cheap as I thought it would be, had plenty of hard plastics, but nothing worse than whats in a Mazda 6 or most Toyotas, interior surprisingly felt like a European car, from the round headlamp switch and HVAC controls, very elegant look and feel, even down to the font used. Car was very heavy, much like a German car, engine could definately use more HP, didn't really impress me there, handling was okay, didn't really get to push the cars limits in any sort of road with twisties. Fit and finish was pretty good, comparable to Toyota, didn't care for the exterior radio antenna, should be built into the rear windshield, engine compartment could use some plastic to cover up the engine, battery, etc. Overall, excellent car, though very disappointing gas mileage, with either the V6 or V8... Ford should definitely put in a modern fuel efficient V6 instead of the current 4.0.

Except that's a completely different engine architecture and is equivalent to comparing apples to oranges...

Lol. Will the T-56 fit in the SN197? I'm not familiar with the clutch/shifter mechanism in the new chassis.

I have a feeling most people are like you and judge the Mustang without knowing anything about it. As far as gas mileage being disappointing, do some research. I have EnerGuide's fuel consumption handbook for 2007 infront of me and it lists the yearly cost of gasoline for the V6 Mustang at $1836 ($2052 for the GT). Which vehicle would you say it has worse mileage then? Everyone here seems to love the G35, well the annual cost for that is $2100, how about the TL, which has an annual cost of $1940. Stop perpetuating old stereotypes. Domestic vehicles are every bit as good as the imports now a days. Nay sayers should do some research, feel free to disagree, but the facts are hard to ignore.

duped into buying gap insurance?

Apparently you don't understand where the need for gap insurance might apply.

The back of the standard California contract reads like this, verbatim:

GAP LIABILITY NOTICE
In the event of theft or damage to your vehicle that results in a total loss, there may be a gap between the amount you owe under this contract and the proceeds of your insurance settlement and deductible. THIS CONTRACT PROVIDES THAT YOU ARE LIABLE FOR THE GAP AMOUNT. An optional gap contract (debt cancellation contract) for coverage of the gap amount may be offered for an additional charge.

I worked with a fellow manager, who totaled his car. Had he not had gap coverage, he would have been stuck over $11000  This is a common scenario in large metro areas.

My sister totaled her brand new Yukon about 2 months after she bought it. State Farm paid her about $1,000 more than what she paid and she had no gap insurance.

She must have upgraded her policy to cover payoff value. With most insurance companies this is not standard, and there is a difference in premium, which can sometimes cost more than the gap insurance. I've had customers who are car insurance agents buy gap insurance on their loans. Everyone's situation is unique. I've had customers ask me if they could get gap insurance. When I see they have put a large downpayment, I will normally tell them they do not need it. OTOH, if they put nothing down and traded in a car they have negative equity in, I will explain how they could need it.

No, just standard policy. Of course, State Farm offered some ridiculous figure the first time. About $6,000 less than what she paid. She told them to take a hike and the counter was much better and that's what she took.

Eh as long as you can offord the car and like it I don't see a problem. I have a friend who got a Mustang, still lives with his parents, has a ****** job, and so on....he should not have goteen that car.

On a personal note, I don't like fords. Rather stupid reasons I guess but when i was a kid we had two fords. They broke down like every other day. My friend had a focus when I was in high school and I thought it felt like crap, and it also was in the shop all the time.

I haven't purchased my own car yet but I've driven 1 94 camry and one 93 camry SE(manual oh yeah...watch out.)
My family drives another camry, a toyota van, a lexux sedan, and my mom just bought a Lexus RX330 yesterday...man is that thing nice.

Needless to say...I would have bought something other then a ford.

oh yes...and used. I understand that having a car that you and only you have owned must be nice..but the price difference is so huge that it just doesn't make sense to me. Of course when buying a used vehicle make sure you have the history of the car.

Yes, The closest available tranny is a Viper T56, but it requires modifications and bracket fabrication...... That is the only flaw I have seen in the car..... only noticeble when trying to put serious TQ.

Unfortunately Ford decided to do a remote mount on the tranny, so it requieres a linkage from te shifter to the back of the tranny, the mechanism include a redisigned Hydrolic throwout bearing..... No more cable....... lol

www.Powerhouse411.net has a sixer running very strong, but with a custom GT-500 tranny.... Larger spline count on the input shaft.... (does requiere a modified preassure plate, flywheel, and clutch)...... there are some companies working on a better tranny solution.

I completely glazed my clutch..... put a Spec stage 2+ on and she is fine now, but the tranny is definetly the weak link as far as handling 400 RWHP or more, for everyday "spirited" driving is fine though.

Next model will have the duratech 3.5 engine on it, but I am uncertain on how well it will take to mods, certanly a more powerful base and much more efficient. Not sure if tranny changes are forthcoming.

As far as the image, I doubt anyone is going to screen the car for a GT badge and in absence of it tell me I'm driving a piece of ******.

Well, except for ATOT.

The average person won't. Actually, I'm sorry for being mean, I read on Car and Driver's comparisons that it is actually the fastest car in that price range. Here is the article.

You got a good price for it, and it's seems to haul ass. But, I still don't trust Ford's reliability after my mom's 2000 Ford Winstar minivan.

Are you judging an entire car maker's reliability based on one specific vehicle, or are you just mentioning this as one specific vehicle you know about, but have heard about others.

I was never a fan of the windstar either, but aside from an accident not his fault, my neighbor has loved his windstar. 160k miles, no problems with it whatsoever.

I also own a 2000 Ford Windstar...... 120K miles on it and two very destructive kids.

I can't blame the manufaturer for the interior destruction my kids perform, but mechanically speaking ......So far so good!!

I have an 05 v6. It is supercharged, runs 12' on the 1/4, stock engine and tranny. 325RWHP 350WRTQ.

My friend has another v6 turboed, with cam/ head work and it runs 11's......

I still drive it daily, I also autocross it.

For the haters..... You have no clue what the s197 can do, and how well it takes to Mods....

I still spent less money than buying a GT and "adding light mods to it"...... and I am faster.

For the poster... If you have to seek advice on your purchase, I really think you chose the wrong car for you ...... you will be better off buying something else, maybe a Prius.

Yay, the supercharged club....I like the whirl it makes...LOL

Those are old EPA numbers. It's rated 17/25 now.

If you have some self control, you could squeeze 26mpg from the V8 like my mother did. Of course, she later ditched the stang for a honda
