I just hooked up my Samsung Neo G8 4K monitor and so far, I have been mightily impressed. Doom Eternal with HDR turned on at 4K is an enormous image enhancer to be sure. One question I have though, is that I used a high quality HDMI 2.1 cable to connect it to my GPU. However, I am seeing well above 120 FPS at 4K in Doom Eternal. It made me wonder because I heard that HDMI 2.1 is limited to 120Hz at 4K.

Now I am using G-sync and I have V-sync turned off. But still, I thought there would be a hard 120Hz limit. Can someone explain to me how this is possible?

im using multi monitor, and i can't tell you how bad scaling works when u move something from one screen to the next, unless its the same resolution.
So i hate scaling... and would rather go about a more hardware approach then a software solution.
Used multimonitor for most of my life and still do.

It is not that bad. But if it drives you nuts you can use the windows key and the arrow keys to move windows between monitors instantly.

The 48 would be a little bit bigger, but its not as bad as a 55 inch.
Due to the cramped space in my room, I used to sit in front of a 55 inch LG 4K HDR TV model with edge dimming. It was possibly less than 60 cm distance between my eyes and the screen. While I did enjoy the excellent visual quality, it often got uncomfortably bright.

Amazon Link

The G8 Neo is @ its lowest price right now for 999.
If you want a Mini LED with FALD i think now would be the best price to get.
However i would highly recommend you go though amazon or best buys directly, as you can return it at any best buys if you have dead pixils, or do a return with amazon if it doesn't even look right.

My replacement monitor came today. It was supposed to come last week but I delayed the delivery due to Thanksgiving. I'm glad that you guys convinced me to get a replacement, because I really hate shipping things back......especially big things like this monitor.

I now realize that my previous monitor definitely had some defects (other than a stuck pixel) because it had an extremely slow wake up from sleep. In fact, it was a pain in the ass to try to get into the UEFI Bios after booting up because the monitor would go to sleep and not wake up fast enough despite me pressing the delete key frantically. That issue is gone with this replacement monitor. During the boot up process the screen would also be in sleep mode until the log in screen and that is also gone. On the plus side, this new replacement is also 20 nits brighter than my old one according to Windows 11's rating.

It's such a shame that this monitor is such a great deal and has great image quality and performance, yet has very poor QA. I recommend that anyone that gets a Samsung Neo G7 or G8, make sure you scrutinize it like Ebeneezer Scrooge scrutinizes his bank account. And if you find anything wrong with it, send it back to the retailer rather than deal with Samsung.

Samsung is quite known to have poor QC.
This is why i will never buy a monitor direct with them, and will go the best buys / amazon route, unless its a insane deal.

But yeah, a 1500 dollar monitor and they can't give you VIP QC, is my biggest grip with samsung.
Also why i decided to go LG OLED Monitor instead of a Odyssey Ark.
Well, besides the fact i am thinking 48 maybe too large, i think i would of died if it was 55 inch.

im actually thinking about the LG OLED monitor with the best buy geek service warrenty.
Its 4 yrs with burn in protection, so if it ever burns in, i hear they will fix it, or refund the price on the monitor.

The monitor supposedly has better burn in protection then the TV.

This way i can use it even with a slight burn in, until it gets really noticeable and have them replace it.

Its a bit more expensive then getting the C2, however i want a real monitor with real sleep, and a DP port.

I looked at the Asus PG42UQ before buying my Neo G8 and I remember watching a review and the reviewer stated that the Asus PG42UQ lacked dynamic tone mapping unlike the LG C2 from which it is based on and supports the base HDR10 standard only because they didn't want to license the more advanced standard for monetary reasons or some such. So that definitely disqualified it for me.

Why am I telling you this? Because the one you're interested in may lack that feature as well so make sure you check if having dynamic tone mapping matters to you.

i can tell you first hand the C2 had better image quality.
No doubt... but the 48gq900 has i think better burn in protection.
I had the odyssey ark for 3 days total before i returned it.
It had bad pixels, and it weight'd 100lbs.
Also i did confirm no one sane should have a 55inch monitor less then 3 feet viewable unless you want neck and back problems.

But my intital take...

Nano-IPS has the best colors and fastest panel for the colors accuracy, horrible light bleeding.
OLED has the best blacks, and things look super fruity on them... like if u see an apple on it, you really want to bite into it as it just looks so delicious.
FALD QLED MiniLED... aka the Ark... i think is a mix of both, its not the best in both, but it takes as much as it can from both and blends it to the best of its abilities. It also had the best HDR, if you saw the image of the sun, you had to wear sunglasses as it was that bright, but again in the apple reference... it wasn't as delicious looking as the OLED, but looked crisper then the Nano-IPS.

phew i went though so many monitors this black friday / cyber monday, im tired as heck.
Also the UPS store would look at me funny, as i returned a C2, and a Ark, and they were like i guess the third one's the charm? which i smiled yup, its the LG OLED Monitor and not TV.

I would agree with this assessment. The HDR on my Samsung Neo G8 is ridiculously good, and yes, it can literally cause your eyes to blink that's how bright it can get under the right circumstances. I think that's why I decided to go with Samsung because it has no severe weaknesses unlike the other panel technologies. OLED doesn't get bright enough for monitor use and is subject to burn in, while IPS doesn't have the high contrast ratios and deep black levels that a VA panel has. IPS has better viewing angles and color accuracy however as you mentioned.

Overall if you can afford it, i still highly recommend the neo g8 32inch if your looking for a fast 4k monitor for primary and gaming. If you want ultra wide, the neo G9 is a great alternative for the same type of panel for ultra ultra wide.

As you said, HDR is important in a lot of games, and i feel OLED's can not compete against a FALD in HDR.
Things get smugged black and i can't see some stuff due to the low contrast, and auto dimming sucks sometimes if i leave the window open too long.
