.... and they didn't even have to push hard.

I bought a Compaq 3120 laptop at Circuit City about a month ago. Supposedly you can add the extended warranty for 14 days.

I went back yesterday and asked them to add it.

Just walked up to the service desk, and bent over....

Still, I'm already worried about this notebook. The touchpad works intermittently only, and a fan on the bottom rattles very badly from time to time.

My Emachine M6809 and an HP I have, both from Best Buy, I do not worry about.

It was only $339 on a $1300 laptop.

Believe me, if it dies just after a year (which it very well may, it happens), you will be VERY happy.

Worth it for peace of mind.

At that rate I'd just eat the 15% restocking fee or buy the plan and then walk up to the service desk and exchange it on the spot for something else.

I bought the warranty for my eMachines M6805 and I'm glad I did, Best Buy took it back no problems after I saw that the screen hinge was cracked.

Dude, I found that a warranty on the laptop is well worth it, labor rate and parts are really expensive. I think I've used about $1500 worth of warranty service on my VAIO that I paid ~$200 for 2 yrs.

I got a 3 year warranty on my Dell laptop. I've already sent it back twice: first time the fans started rattling, and the second time... I tore out my headphone jack...

If you know what your doing, city advantage isnt worth it on desktops. If you dont, it is because it includes In-Home service.

I know you work @ CC, so I know you know how it works...contracted out to GE, covers hardware only, nothing to do with software...which is understandable and this can be FUBARed by "user error" The real sh!tty part of it is...no matter what the problem is, they will make you do a complete restore before they will even consider looking at it. Ive had numerious customers come in that had compaq/hp before system restore was built in. CDRW drive broken, faulty usb port, you name it....GE made them order a restore cd from HP, which would take a week to get, then do a restore, then call them back.

The majority of people who would buy a PC @ CC, and then buy the ext warranty on a PC....do not know much about PCs...they don't know how to back up...in some cases don't know wtf "back up" means. It leaves people up in the air with no where to turn really...when they thought they had coverage.

GE trys every exuse not to come out on "in home" service.

a local electronics/hi fi shop here has an insane policy.

I bought a $450 tv, and a $65 extended warranty that covers 4 years (5 years total warranty). the warranty (4 years extended only) is in home service and if they have to come out 3 times, they replace the unit.

if you don't happen to need any warranty service, at the end of the term you can apply to have the cost of the warranty returned to you as store credit.

how could I say no?

Of course they do, but it dosent change my opinion.

80% of the customers in my store are 65+ years old, they can barely walk into the store, let alone bring their computer somewhere. For some, its still worth it even with the potential pre-hassle.

What state do you live in? Terms differ based on state laws.

Not all extended warranties are bad. On the other hand, not all extended warranties are good. In this case, there's just sooooo many things that can go wrong with a laptop especially if you take it everywhere.

Good job, in this case.

They probably expect people to forget when the warranty expires or lose their reciept, and not go back for their refund.
