I am very happy with my purchase, even if Infinite D is sort of clumsy. (but what RPG isn't at first.) I got in close to 2 hours of gameplay, and turned that sucker off! I can't wait to wire everything up properly tomorrow.

2 Questions again!

1) How long is the VGA cable? I am hoping at least 8 feet.
2) Updates: How are updates pushed? Is there a menu option somewhere to "force check" an update? I am going to set up my 360 tomorrow to stream video from my Vista PC, and I want to make sure I have all the latest codecs, updates...etc.

1) Not sure precisely how long it is but I think you're looking around 6 feet perhaps a bit longer. I have mine hooked up to my DLP via the VGA cable and its a pretty decent length from the console to the port on the TV and there's still a bit of slack. Actually after looking at it one more time there's a lot of slack on there. I'd say there's a good chance of 8 feet, presuming you purchased an MS cable.

2) The system automatically checks for the main dashboard updates upon each boot. Individual game updates are checked upon each game load. Codec updates are done (if needed and not included with the dashboard update) when you attempt to play the codec. Very straightforward. Good chance that you'll have to download one media update to play avi files and the like but not much else.

Why would you buy something from virgin megastore? That place is the most ripoff store in any city. I know they got best buy in NYC, even best buy's better than virgin megastore.

I'm guessing because Best Buy was closed (the ones in my area close up at 9:00 pm) and he was anxious to get one. I know the feeling myself, sometimes I'm willing to not get the best deal on the block to get something sooner.

As nsafreak said, any game updates and such will be automatic every time. If your console or a game needs an update, it will let you know as soon as you turn on your console or boot up a game.

All 360s on the shelves right now are Falcons. If the wattage on the power supply says 175 watts, you have a Falcon.

The older chipset is already out of the retail channels. A newer chipset, Jasper, is supposedly coming this month but there haven't been any reports of anyone picking one up yet.

As for the HDMI, I have an HDMI - DVI adapter already, so that might work wonderfully with my monitor. Will it support a native res of 1680x1050? My monitor has built-in scaling options, so it's probably not that big a deal.

I don't believe it the 360 will support a native 1680x1050 res. It does 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i, and 1080p.

But it should scale to your monitor well enough regardless OP.

Yeah, but I am a sucker for the native resolutions. I don't mind bars on top and bottom though.

I can't wait. I have an RPG itch. lol

In your original post you mention some good games. I would also look into Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon! If you like Western RPG don't forget Mass Effect, I loved it.

Exactly. I wanted it too badly. As soon as the rain stopped, I headed out.

I'll probably get more this weekend (gonna try and see if I can snag some used games.)

Mass Effect was awesome, I finished it (as a total a-hole) and now I want to try it as a good guy. It was on my PC though on a 4870. I can't imagine the 360 version looking better. lol

Google has led me to believe that it is 8 feet, which *might* not be enough for me. I am probably going to order a long HDMI cable + an HDMI-DVI converter from Newegg. It'll probably be cheaper too.

I dunno though, this thing looks frikken clean as hell on my TV, and it's huge.

Allow me to chime in long after your questions have already been answered: 360 hands down. I considered a PS3, too, before I bought my second Xbox (sold the first one because I thought I was done with gaming... I was wrong). I had RROD issues with my first 360, but when I factored in Live, I just couldn't bring myself to pass it over for PS3. Yeah, I realize that Live costs money and PS3's online is free, but I'll gladly fork over $50/year (no credit card required, btw) for what Live delivers. Plus, the community is so much larger.

I've had my second 360 since May and, knock on wood, have not had any problems with it. Plus, the 360 has Forza Motorsport 2. PS3 doesn't. Tiebreaker goes to 360.

RPGs worth playing on the 360:

Lost Odyssey
Oblivion
Mass Effect
Eternal Sonata
Enchanted Arms
Blue Dragon
Tales of Vesperia
Infinite Undiscovery

I'm not saying they're all 10/10 masterpieces, but they aren't going to waste your time.

That is awesome. My local Gamestop supposedly has them in stock. I am going to call them when I am about to leave work.
