what is it with so many makers using the style of shoes having all those fake "springs" on the heel? even if they were intended to aid in a rebound effect, they can't because none of them can excert enough pressure per lb to be effective. I know its marketing but its odd that people would believe it much less even like how they look...kinda remind me of custom shoes for handicaps

my local mall, that style is like 80% of all their shoes they stock

Discount shoes FTW. I've spent maybe $200 on shoes in the past 10 years. I wear them until the soles fall off. And even then, I'll hot glue them back together and wear them for another six months.

I don't think I've ever had a shoe fall apart, and I have never bought expensive shoes. I get rid of them when they are ugly and worn.

That said, I don't expect $15 Wal-Mart shoes to look so hot.

Nothing usually wrong with WalMart shoes, but I usually wait for a Slick Deal on Nike/Reboks (for around $18 to $20 shipped). With that said, my wife paid $3.00 for a pair of boots (clearance) for my daughter (a few weeks ago) and it had a 1/2" staple (carpenter's size staple, not desktop) sticking up inside at the heel. It was molded into the shoe (not through the outside heel). It cut my daughter's foot when she tried it on. Thank goodness that she didn't try it on standing up and then putting full pressure on it. Would most likely have had to cut it off if that would have happened.

Just make sure to feel around the inside of the shoes before trying them on.

Hmmm, good heads up. On the other hand, the pain may be worth a lawsuit.

the ones i get aren't that bad. While not shoes i would wear if i plan on being my feet for hours at a time. but for around the house (i wear them like people do slippers) they are great. i have 3 pairs (got 2 on clearance at $5 a pair!). one pair is going on 3 years. though i am going to toss them because the inside of the shoe is falling apart. the outside is still nice.

I wear them darn near all day. though i'm not on my feet much

Though i do need to get a good pair of shoes. i been going to the Y more and walking 1-3 miles. my feet are killing me after a mile. i need some good yet cheaper shoes.

Well, when you get those under $50 shoes, you can actually see the glue around the soles. It's like they just put a chunk on, press and call it a day. Remove the foot padding and wow, what a messy scene. When you go up in price (generally....but who is dumb enough to pay the full price for the Kohls brand), you can actually see that they paid enough attention to detail to make sure the glue shows minimally or not at all. Whether or not this means better construction, I could not tell you.

Also, I am talking $100 MSRP shoes. Not that really expensive stuff that actually has nails in it.

Ever try Timberland Pro Titian?

No. I settled on combat boots as being "good enough". Keep in mind when I say the boots weren't comfortable, that should be translated as "I didn't wear them out of choice". I prefer being barefoot, but boat shoes are ok, especially when well worn.

The big problem I had with boots, is they got trashed fast, and there was little you could do to protect them. 2 years was about the maximum length of time, and that was pushing it. By then, I usually had holes in the leather, and walked on dirt most of the day :^D

$300 boots, or $100 boots, they lasted the same amount of time, and couldn't be rebuilt due to leather damage. I'd occasionally try the better(but cheap) import boots from eastern Europe, but they wouldn't last. I think my record time for destroying boots was 3 months for a pair of Hermanns if I remember right. Pissed me off cause they felt pretty good.

I'd always keep my eyes open at closeout stores and stuff, and buy boots when they were available. That way I could get American made boots for not too much money. That's a big reason I liked combat boots. They were tall so I could tuck my BDUs in the top(keeps out dirt, and bugs), and I live near an army base, so they'd turn up used, but in like-new condition fairly frequently.

I'm out of the business now, and very seldom wear boots, but will throw them on when I have heavy work, or deep snow to travel in.

Well most do follow the things their parents bought them. I'd have thought you had bought you own shoes a few times by now.

only shoe i'll wear is an nike air force one. i get a new pair in white about every 6 months, ill get a colored pair or 2 maybe once a year. i keep the old ones for rainy days and the new ones for the clubs

I can't stand air force one's I'll take a pair of Campus II over them any day. I also never got the white sneakers bit. I buy colored suede sneakers with white accents to show off their "freshness".

Many years ago we had a local shoe store that had all kinds of discounted shoes. I think they got them for other shoe stores that were not able to sell the shoes so this shoe store got them dirt cheap. A lot of times they were sizes that nobody wears, or styles that nobody wanted, but sometimes you could find a decent name brand pair in your size. Now we normally go to a Payless shoe store. I am not real hard on shoes and even the less expensive shoes from Payless lasts me for at least 2 years.

Racist stereotype alert!!!

The only people I ever see wearing these are the skinny lanky black dudes with gold "grills", pants hanging down to their asscheeks (or jogging pants with one pant leg up), a white tank top, a few thick gold chains around their neck and a ball cap sitting on their head at least 45 degrees off center.

/me looks at quoted poster.... "Oh. Nevermind."

hahaha i have flywire nike shox too.. they where 91$ at the nike clearance (and i love them) . Also If you want cheat shoes id go to big 5 and get some the asics or what ever they called hehe they have decent ones for 25-30 that have lasted long long time for me. Sometimes get some sk8 shoes off ebay for 40-50. Never considered getting 15$ walmart shoes just because they look really bad (if was just for around the house or something i guess i might but who needs shoes for around the house?)

LOL @ ATOT fashion. How do you guys ever get laid?

I hate to admit it, but I spend a ridonkulous amount of money on shoes

It's nothing to drop $300+ on a pair of shoes. Not like I have the money for it, just a weak spot for them. Have 3 closets full of shoes, would make Imelda Marcos embarrassed.

However, both men and women do notice them very frequently. Multiple times a day. So it is true that people notice shoes. Just wish I had a bit more self control when it comes to buying them...

If you're foolish enough to spend $100+ on sneakers there is a saying for you. "A fool and his money are soon parted"

If you think it costs that much more to make a Nike or Adidas shoe compared to a store brand Walmart or Payless shoe you've successfully fallen for the scam.
Look at how much money Nike spends on advertising. In 06 they spent $1.7 BILLION dollars. Half a billion alone on celebrity endorsments.
Their goal is to make their products as cheaply as possible and sell them for as much as possible.
This is how a Marketing manager hits what's calleda home run. They've convinced a lot of people to spend a lot of money for no additional gain over pair of walmart shoes.

I've got some walmart flip flops that have been to hell and back and are at least 7 years old. I've got some Dr. Scholls shoes I bought there a few years ago and thye are still in great shape, I only paid $15 for those.
The king of my shoes though is a pair of Vans I bought in 1999 that I still have. The soles are almost worn through and they have gone through countless pairs of laces, but the shoes remain.

Wal Mart?

K.

Not saying they aren't the only evil out there, but they are one of the worst.

And buying a pair of $15 shoes? Unless you are so poor you can't afford anything else, getting something like that will only hurt, literally, in the long run.

Fallen arches, poor support, and crappy soles will have your knees, hips and shins hurting in no time.

YMMV.
