I'm not a whiskey snob...hell, I used to buy Scoresby in the 5-gallon bucket...
Johnnie Walker is OK whiskey for that it is...inexpensive blended whiskey. As you get into the better blends, the price goes up, but so does the quality and taste. I've only had JW Blue a few times. (too expensive for my budget when I drank heavy) Nice whiskey, good flavor, nice nose, smooth on the tongue.
Are there better single malts? HELL YES! But, single malts are something of an acquired taste. Each one is different and what one person likes, the next guy might think is nasty as hell. I've had a few shots of Scotch that were several hundred $$ per bottle. Some were smooth as silk, wonderful nose, nice rich peaty taste...while others tasted like they had been filtered through the neighbor's sheep manure pile before it was bottled.
Blended whiskeys usually give you the best of each whiskey while countering the bad in each. I don't advocate blended over single malt, but then again, I don't advocate single malt over blended...it's a matter of individual taste.
