Their $15/mo internet is only 2Mbit/sec? That's a bit on the slow side. You would think their min. plan would be at least 3 or 5 Mbit/sec down.

I just got Internet Essentials for $10/mo for 10/1 service.
I too have the same plan. They advertised it as 2Mbit/s, but I tend to usually get 2.5 on the internet speed tests. It is good enough for 3 Pandora stations and multiple people browsing simultaneously without any noticeable problems. Occasionally I get a buffer pause while streaming videos, but other than that I see no reason to upgrade. I'll deal with the occasional 3 second delay to save $500/year over my next option.

Should just find some person to hack your modem for faster speeds.

Yeah -- I just got notice it's available in my neighborhood too. $80 per month.
Trick is I'm guessing if I change to that, they will cancel my UVerse TV and if they cancel my UVerse TV they will force me to get Direct TV (they don't offer UVerse anymore) and I refuse to go to a dish. I could get Time Warner TV instead, but then since I don't have a bundled service, AT&T put a data cap in. You can't win. The game is rigged against the consumer

AT&T fiber no longer has data cap for gigabit users even when unbundled. So you could get Time Warner TV and gigafiber without data cap. Or just gigafiber alone with no data cap. In my case, both Charter internet and AT&T fiber have no data cap so I'm good.

Whoah! That's interesting. I was told different.

Since my subdivision is brand new, the whole place was wired for fiber from the get go. I've could have AT&T fiber years ago when they started offering it. The "gigapower" brand name that is. Problem is the 1TB data cap per month and then the $100 surcharge for every 10GB after that or something stupid at the time when I looked it up. Now they offer unlimited if you are willing to pay another $50 a month. Ridiculous money grab that was far more blatant that the cable providers. No thank you. I have 200 Mbs, which I get over 300 Mbs most of the time through my cable internet for $40 a month and no data cap. I wouldn't mind paying the $80 a month for the "gigapower" 1Gb download speed, but that data cap is stupid.

Last I checked it's uncapped if unbundled IF you pay an extra $50 a month for uncapped downloads. That was like last week I checked.

Looks like they did change it. Now the base price is $90 unbundled with no cap. Still pretty pricey. If it drops to $60 I'd get it for sure.

I wish we had gigabit where we live. Spectrum tops out at 50/5, which is $70 a month under promotion, then $110 a month out of promotion.

We have the option of Fios, but I've heard horror stories. Does anyone here have Verizon Fios?

Wow, with spectrum here and have 200/10 for $40 without promotion. Well $50 but $10 off since bundled with TV. Basic TV channels 2-99 is $70. So my bill is just over $120 every month. If I could get my wife weened off watching hallmark channel and just stick with streaming services only I would be only paying that $50 a month and some change.

The CRTC has just denoted Internet service an essential service for Canada, like telephone service, at the level of 50/10 Mbps and an option for uncapped data. The onus now is on the ISPs to make that service available whereever they serve customers and, using a govt. supplied subsidy, derived from their taxes and fees, to build out to areas not now served. It says % 82 presently have this bandwidth.
There is no price regulation . Even so, areas now served by satellite will likely be ignored.

Does your area have a lot of competition?
In many areas where I live there is no competition to Spectrum. We're lucky enough to be in a neighborhood with Fios available.

Though Spectrum doesn't care about that. I called up to negotiate another year of internet and phone, ready to show them what Verizon was offering. I was told, I would be paying $40 more than what I was paying at the time, and they would not budge. I ended up cancelling phone, and grabbed the 1 year promotion price for internet. I'm guessing that next year, I'm either paying $110, or seeing how bad Fios is.

There is a fair bit. Grande communications, Green Valley Electric, AT&T, Google, and a few others all provide high speed internet services around here.

Bleh, comcast is the only option here. So I'm paying $70 for uncapped 16/3 business connection. Highway robbery IMO, but comcast has zero competition over here so they can do whatever they please.

I have to say don't believe it. I got notified back in Spring by both my HOA and the contractor AT&T hired to put the new conduit in. The conduit got installed in July/August and then nothing. AT&T construction, facilities, etc., never bothered. This is almost a repeat from 2014 when they promised the FCC and put out notifications and then did exactly nothing. Even the guy I called inside of AT&T (yes, I work for them) didn't know what was going on with all the jerking around.

Concrap continues to be the only provider in my neighborhood. And it isn't like people here are not wanting it, not asking for it and can afford it. I'm in only one of Atlanta's greater metro counties with +900,000 people and AT&T just befuddles things on a business as usual manner. I image Hailey's Comet might see it the next time its overhead.

That makes me wish I lived where you are. On DSL reports, there is a story that Verizon would consider buying Spectrum. If that happened, there goes the last of my areas "competition".
