So am I just weak, or is driving at the legal limit really dangerous? Because at 3 beers or so I would definitely not trust myself behind the wheel of a car..

Of course I'm not 21 yet either, but even by that time I don't think I'll be all that more sober after that many anyway.

It takes a while for alcohol to enter and leave your system...

is it true that if you chew some really strong mints, it'll throw off the breathalyzer reading?

The "legal" limit, and the "officer's" limit is not the same.

The thing is, even if you pass a breathalyzer, you can still be detained for drunk driving after failing a field test. Charged? Maybe not, but I wouldn't push it.

No. Nor is the penny myth true.

even if you are under the legal limit, if the officer deems you unsafe to drive then you are DUI.

It takes awhile for alcohol to leave your system, but it DOES NOT take long for it to enter your system. In some ways it depends on the alcohol.

I can tell you this... that calculator is completely wrong. I couldn't drink 5 beers in an hour and be OK to drive. I'd kill someone.

Does this take into acount that Oklahoma has the whole 3.2 beer law? Most beers everywhere else are 5.4/5.7......so their beer is less than two-thirds the alcohol of just about everyone elses?

"Well, at least eating breath mints might fool the officer, right?"

Ha. Sure, police are really fooled when they see a combination of erratic driving behavior and powerfully minty breath. Yep, that one fools us every time. Get real.

The forumla on the page is .54oz of alcohol per beer, so at 12oz of beer, alcohol content would only be 4.5%, well below what most beers are at.

Remember that the field sobriety tests are voluntary, and you may politely refuse if asked to perform them.

No, actually that is not true. A majority of states have implied consent laws, and not only are BAC tests part of that, but FST are applicable as well. The Supreme Court has ruled that the 5th amendment only applies to testimonial nature, and doesn't apply to something like a FST or BAC test. Thus there is no constitutional right to refuse them, but sometimes a refusal is advisable.
