I can Hear my wireless router

I ahve a D-Link DI-624 and I swear i can hear a very high-pitched "eeeeeeeeeeeeeee" not loud mind you but at a very high frequency, and i have to "listen" to hear it.

I dont know but its one of threee things:


1) My router is broken
2) Im crazy
3) I have "powers"
4) I have exceptionally good hearing


Im absolutely serious that i hear this and it is comign from the router. Can any one else hear it?

No, I have one too. Don't forget it is a combo unit using mixed frequencies. You are hearing the PLL (Phase Locked Loop) circuitry. People that can "hear" Television sets 19-23KHZ "Pilot" Frequency for Stereo shift would most likely hear the Mux Mixer circuitry in just about any combo wireless equipment. You would not likely "hear" a non-combo frequency unit since it would lack the extra mixing circuitry.

You have good hearing BTW.

This is a fairly common complaint with the DI-624 Rev. C router. I have one, and can hear it also if I'm within a few feet of it.

I can hear many monitors and television sets so you're not crazy. Some people are just sensitive to certain frequency ranges no matter how anatomically impossible it is.

I hear a DUT, DUT DUT,DUT, DUT, DUT, DUT,... in very rapid succession. Yes that is a wifi signal sound. High pitched sqeals are portable phone. Or something from outside your home or from some environment, outside your personal space. I do know there are amplifiers on buildings for cell phones to be boosted. I do not know what else makes the squeal sound, although on occasion, depending where i am am, i have heard that and a few other things.
As i child i was sent to a specialist for hearing, and i have extremely good hearing for frequencies- i am sort of an anomaly- and yes there are other people with hearing at that range. But, we do not belong to any group like MENSA, LOL.

I know this is many years late, but I'm fairly sure I can hear WiFi too. Maybe hear is the wrong word. It's a high buzz. It's not the sound of electricity because it comes and goes, while the electricity is fairly constant. I suppose it could be from the router but it's within a building or an area in a wifi-park, so the sound is not near the router. It could be something from a cell tower, but it seems to get trapped in a house or a building like it's enclosed by the electrical wires/circuitry.

However, I can always tell when wifi is available when pulling up to McDonald's or a hotel. Well, wifi is available all over now, but back 10 or 15 years ago when it was less ubiquitous, I could always find wifi like a divining rod. Weird experiences with this type of thing have convinced me that some people can hear wifi. I'm sure it must be related to IQ... Kek kek.

NO-YOU DONOT SOUND CRAZY. not only can ihear the damn router, or actually the wireless signals i SEE the sound i hear as the lights of the router flash. sometimes it is harsh loud and looping othertimes it is an angry buzz but the fact is i can see what i am hearing in the patterns of lights flashing on my router. i am a hacking victim and have tried to block wireless attacks as the wireless invasions produced sounds that were migraine causing most of the times when hacking was active. now thereare in home cameras and appently my dad put a thing in the car to track everywhere i go...as he is pretty much senile i just let him have his fun but do not think for a second i do not hear whatever has been placed in the car to track me...plus it kills the vehicles' battery to the point i have to undo the battery at nights.

one thing i will ask you-have you tried to RECORD this noise? try checking out the lights to see if you can see what u hear in the flashing of the lights on the front of your router. also i noticed certain led flashlights will also flash in time tothese signals i hear. the thing dad put on my car was definitly noticed as the car made no sound at first then my dad drives off for a couple of hours saying he went to walmart and suddenlysame sound coming from the same area in the rearof the new van

Well, seeing that the post was from 2003, that was like 15 routers ago ... There seriously was a noise coming out of the thing though. My latest ASUS AC router quietly does its job, or i just got older and years of motorcycle riding have dampened my hearing ability.

Turn off the radio just to rule it out but I doubt it's that. My guess is it's the PSU. I have a cheap LCD monitor I can hear too even when it's off! Had to unplug it. (I only use it seldomly)
