I can only Print once before...

Hey guys! Not often do I post... But when I do you always come through... Thanks in Advance on this one....

System is an AMD Athlon XP 2200+ 512 DDR ECC RAM
Windows 98 SE & Norton Antivirus updated automatically
Printer is Epson Stylus Color 600

"I can only Print once before..." I get an Error Message for the printer "EPSON 600, Error while spooling to "". Unable to start spool Manager" The only way I can print again is to reboot AND unplug then replug the printer.

Quick history - has run fine for two years until I used TaxCut 2003 (always used TurboTax before). On printing tax documents, this problem cropped up. Through their technical support pages, this problem was revealed. Their solution was to go through Settings to the Printer options to "Spool Settings" and change setting to "Print directly to Printer" Solved that problem until I needed to print a second document. Tried all sorts of things including reloading printer drivers (several times). Through trial and error got to reboot and unlug/plug routine.

Don't know what to do... any thoughts, ideas, or suggestions would be strongly and gratefully appreciated. Thanks again!!

Have you tried changing the spool settings back to what they were before you had to change them for Tax Cut?

If all else fails, try uninstalling and re-installing the printer with the Add/Printer wizard.

Is spool manager a part of Windows management, a part of the printer management, or a combination of both? Don't know quite where to focus a search...

Seriously that printer is old school and windows 98 is too outdated for your system. This is not what you are looking for I know. That printer has to be circa 97' and its parallel only. Printing via usb works soo much better.

Have you tried to completely uninstalling it, clean out the registry of entries, uninstall the tax software, reboot, reinstall the printer?

Try setting the printers properties to defaults.

Yes to resetting the spooling via setting the parameters myself and resetting to default (both showed the same settings afterward)...

The Tax software is long gone and I have uninstalled the printer twice so there were no printer seyttings at all and then reinstalling... deja-vu, "I can only print once..."

Now that you say this, your input on the registry intrigues me, now. What is involved with cleaning out the registry entries? I have enough knowledge to be potentially dangerous, here - to know that registry is serious stuff and have never dealt with that end. I am open though to trying new things especially with input from the "Forum" gurus... I am wondering if in fact I need to do the "clean out registry routine as you have laid out might do it..."

Hmmm... please advise when you can on this angle...

Start->Run->type "regedit"

Expand Hkey_Local_Machine->Software

Just delete any folder listed there dealing with your tax software and printer

Reboot, reinstall printer.

Are you changing the printer settings through a program,
or with the printer's Icon under printers off the start menu?

Printer settings were changed through start/settings/control Panel/printers/doubleclicking on the Epson 600 icon (no other printers there)/printer/properties/details/spool settings... set to "spool so print jobs spool faster and start printing after first page is spooled. Spool data format is the only choice available: "RAW".

well, gentlemen... nothing on theregedit side...

I did figure out that I can print WHOLE documents in a row... It is when I specify a selection, current page, or a specific page that we crash.... ugh!!! And I just got a bunch of ink cartridges for it!, too!!


Okay then, unless someone has any suggestions on this thing, I need suggestions for a decent inkjet under a hundred bucks that's driveable off of Windows 98... Thanks guys for all your efforts!!
