But it's completely possible you're just creepy, or old, or saying something fundamentally contrary to the ethos of the organizations you apply to.

I'm getting the impression that a resume is no longer a good means of applying to jobs. I mean, as a means of getting noticed.

As I'm currently looking, I am getting a lot of dickish-ness on the phone interviews (I'm applying to top-level places where they seem to feel that dickish-ness is their right), but when I show up and wow them on the presentation and in-person interview, they seem to make a complete reversal on the prior dickish-ness.

From this, I get the impression that employers are seeing a lot of overblown or exaggerated resumes, so they don't take the resume too seriously. Not until they're able to get you in person do they get to find out if you're the real deal.

This could all be my imagination, and it doesn't really help with the OP's problem of not getting to the interview... but it's just what I noticed.

I'm in some high level work, and I've got a little more than 10 years of employment behind me. I'm only applying to things that I believe would be "better" than what I already have. My expectations are not set high on response rates. I've had three interviews in the past six months, and I'm okay with that (I'm employed at a good job, so I have time). I guess my point is: be persistent... and gauge your expectations.

OP, what's your Facebook page and/or other social media look like. "Hey, here are 10 candidates to interview. Each interview will take an hour. Or, we could spend 2 minutes each looking at their Facebook profiles, and probably narrow the list down to 5." "Good idea. That'll save us 5 hours."

This. When my employer backgrounds people, that is one of the first steps they use. Even if you think your profile is locked down, more is exposed than you probably realize. Have someone you trust, that is not friends with you on Facebook, look you up and see what it looks like. I think there used to be a view profile as feature, but I forget how to get to it right now.

I'll give another one... what email address did you use on your application/resume? I have seen some that were LOL worthy and others that were absolutely cringe worthy used on applications.

Probably my favorite was something like "DDSoccerMom@email...." Seriously Double D Soccer Mom? (No I did not reply with "pics?") And even if that's not what they meant... could yours be similarly misconstrued?

Others had subtle or not so subtle 420 references, Insane Clown Posse references (Juggalo/lette), and various other "fun" emails.

Nothing wrong with them per se, but if you are applying to a responsible position, I suggest getting an email with little room for error. Say your name, or obvious variation of it. Keep your PokemonMaster@hotmail account and have the boring one forward to it. Just make sure you reply from the right one.

If I was talking to a friend, I may use my "the yeti" email address, but for work, I use my name.

And as others said, connections are important, they give you an "in"

Being creepy looking shouldnt really hurt you unless you are also unable to act professional.

Doesn't help that so many people lie on their resume it makes it extremely difficult to be honest about your experience and get any callbacks.

Do you have any SEC violations that needed to be disclosed? Just asking, because you should know already that if you've violated any SEC rules in the financial industry, forget about ever working in that industry again.

Are you an FC? PC? PM? Clerk? What series qualification do you have? Etc...
