I can't stand STALKER

I tried playing it when it first came out. Didn't really get into it, and a friend asked to borrow it and then he lost it. So I bought it during a Steam sale... and then I bought Call of Pripyat because it was on sale later. I loaded up STALKER complete because I remember the innaccuracy\puniness of the weapons was a huge turn off the first time... So I'm about 4 hours in now, finished the first underground part, and it just isn't fun. It's boring. Also, I spend 20 minutes in a gun fight clearing bandits out of an outpost, only to have them all reappear as soon as I walk away.

I just finished playing Dragon Age & all of it's DLC. I'm thinking Stalker is getting skipped. So next it's either Borderlands or Fallout.

Stalker is one of those games that you either like it or hate it. There doesn't seem to be a middle ground to it. That seemed to be the consensus back when it first came out.

If the immersion story doesnt get you the so so fighting mechanics will bore you quickly..

The story didn't grab me. My dialog with NPCs was all predetermined and canned. Coming from Dragon Age I felt like I had no real choices in dealing with NPCs.

It's different. You can't just go into a wide open field, hit a slowmo button, drop 5 guys while circle strafing, and then hide behind a rock and auto heal like most consolized games these days.

Can get a little frustrating at times, but the higher difficulty makes it more enjoyable to me. You have to pick your spots, use cover and lean out and aim for the head. Once you get an assault rifle with a scope, it's pretty damn easy even on master though.

The respawning bandits got to be very annoying. I just cleared this area out and they're already retaking it GRRRRRR

Indeed. One of the best FPS I've ever played to date. If the desolate environment doesnt grab you, you are screwed because it's a long game.

As above, the game gets easier once you've got scoped weapons. Especially when you get the nice scoped weapons. The bandits are little more than target practice then.

There was one area where the bandits always attack a small band of stalkers every time you enter the zone. The railroad tunnel area. There was a huuuge pile of bandits by the time I was through. good times.

you are right, I played 2 times Stalker and Clear I'm waiting for a mod for the last one I like the good ending inStalker , the story is fantastic, mods like Complete2009 make it better...

See. That's funny. I couldn't stand Fallout 3. I liked the atmosphere, but I didn't like getting beaten up by 8 ft Scorpions and I thought the RPG thing was a bit wonky. Put it down after a few hours and resold it.

The weapons in stalker are actually pretty accurate. The caveat is that the player's human avatar is not - especially early on, you absolutely need to crouch, stop, pick a point and give it a moment (without adjust your aim with the mouse, cause that has a penalty to accuracy to).

THIS! I don't like Fallout 3. I've only played 1 hr of it and that's all I will probably play. I found it rather boring. At least, to me, STALKER's story grabbed my attention and the challenging shootouts (i.e. not just run and shoot situations) made it even more interesting.

Spent $25 on Fallout 3 and all its DLC. Hate it, just hate it! Definitely go with Borderlands. After about 20 hours of ignoring the storyline you sort of get interested in it. Thats fun game and I haven't even maxed a character yet.

Stalker SOC was one of the best fps games to come out. Dont forget in vanilla SOC there was a leveling system behind the scenes so as the game progressed you got better with the guns.

Played about 4 hours of Borderlands last night. Time flew by, that game is so much fun, and FUNNY too.

Yea I didn't like STALKER that much either. It's really not that fun from what I played but people said to get the Complete 2009 MOD which is supposed to make it better.

If you don't like STALKER. Then remove every mod you have for it and download LURK. It is the CLOSEST I have ever gotten to the genuine STALKER experience. It compromises a bit, but it makes stealth not only viable, but very rewarding. I love being in a village watching things go on around me, when it's raining with lightning, you watch between the cracks of houses and trees trying to listen to everything around you. LURK is basically what STALKER should have tried to be in the first place. Check it out and play on the hardest setting!

I didn't like the Complete 2009 mod. Aside from bug fixes and beautiful environment there wasn't much else about it. I ended up uninstalling it and loading Oblivion Lost 2.2 once again. The artifact transmutation stuff is simply the best thing in the game now, it renders the original artefacts more or less useless. That and getting new weapons, sometimes laying inside various rooms. You get to fight the x16 controller with an updated FN2000.

AMK mod was also very good, there were rumors about the team that made it to release a second mod but nothing ever happened. That made the game very tough and realistic.

The bandit spam in Garbage is only for your benefit since it adds to your cash quite a bit in the beginning and the only time that it gets challenging is when you play AMK, those MP5's are damn good weapons there.
Also you should try the arena if you haven't already, there are some surprises in AMK.

the only place that respawned for me were the bandits at the garbage dump area, other than that, whoever i killed stayed dead after re zoning. i also completely HATED stalker with a passion until i installed the complete mod, waiting for COP complete now

but like everyone says you either like it or hate it.
