I really liked the game, although the hardest part was when I pretty much cheated at the beginning and went to the camp next to where you start out at and killed everyone to get a better gun.

Seems like a hard game to get into. I played a little of SOC a couple years ago and it just didn't grab me. Tried again when I got Clear Sky with a video card and I liked that one pretty well, although some things still bothered me. CoP was good but other games grabbed my attention and I haven't gotten back to it. Not sure if I ever will at this point. It's a very slow game.

I'm not a masochist so I haven't been playing on the hardest difficulty setting, I just play on the default and it's still somewhat challenging without punishing me over and over again. It'd probably be a lot slower if I had it on a harder setting... I'd have to sneak into a place, kill one guy, run away and heal, repeat, over and over. Just boring and repetitive.

EDIT: Oh and I just remembered now why I put CoP away. I got stuck. There was some area I was supposed to go to but I just couldn't figure out how to get past it. I don't even remember now, only that I kept running back and forth through the same set of buildings and there wasn't any way to get to the area I needed to get to.

The weapons in stalker are actually pretty accurate. The caveat is that the player's human avatar is not - especially early on, you absolutely need to crouch, stop, pick a point and give it a moment (without adjust your aim with the mouse, cause that has a penalty to accuracy to).

That is exactly what kills the game for me. So many specific techniques just to get a decent shot off. I'm too lazy to go through a whole sequence of movements just to have a decent accuracy rate. By the time I get done crouching and timing my shot, they had already knocked my health down.

I just like to point and shoot, especially on easy mode.

rofl i did the same thing and picked up an AK, much easier after that instead of the stupid starter pistol. i think i had over 400k saved up by the time i finished the game.

I think that I did about the same thing, and I'm pretty sure I got one of the worst ending game scenes also. I also think I went on a killing spree in one of the bigger towns later and got all of the weapons from everyone I killed.

I didn't play this game a lot, but I found the story disconnected from me and frankly...I felt lost. That said, I remember going underground in a dark building and that was some of the scariest video game experiences I've had. I should give it another shot sometime though.

I actually think STALKER has much, much better gameplay than fallout. However I think Fallout has much better story line / exploration. I'd love to see a game that combined the 2 aspects. Take STALKER's equipment style, weapon system, radiation system, radiation traps and ambience - Take Fallout's expansive world, large number of NPCs, multitude of quests - Take a combination of the various monster types and you've got a post apocalyptic game of epic proportions.

The problem with Fallout is that once it ditched SRPG (which I loved), it should have also ditched the retarded VATS system which is just a dead limb currently.

I like that in STALKER the environment is almost a bigger menace than the monsters. That is an important aspect that I think Fallout completely missed. Sure, you've got radiation, but it's not a big deal. STALKER has all sorts of environmental traps that should come with a game of this type.

Now, all you need is a survival system (food / water / radiation) that is actually worth a damn. And vehicular transportation of course, which both games dropped the ball on.

The two things I loved about Stalker were the AI, and the accuracy of the weapons and damage. You were very frail, and guns had a pretty darn realistic accuracy. I liked that the enemies weren't any weaker than you were, and you just had to be a better tactician than them to win.

I also liked that the AI would move around and try to kill each other and take the positions of their enemies. That you could find the guy you saved a couple days ago dead in the middle of the road since he got himself into more trouble than he could handle. That was just awesome. (In other words, I loved that the world seemed to move on without you. That the AI would actually interact with itself in a semi realistic way.)

I'm glad someone else shares the same sentiments as me.

I never tried any of the STALKER games until they were in a Steam sale. Played Shadow of Chernobyl, and I tried to like it. Really, I tried to like the game. But I couldn't. Even though the atmosphere and the immersion was awesome, I just couldn't get past the frustrating combat and dozens of respawning bandits. Shooting people isn't satisfying at all. The guns are wildly inaccurate. Overall just a very meh experience. (And yeah, I'm playing with the Complete 2009 mod).

Maybe I'll install Call of Pripryat and try that one.

if you didn't like the first game you won't like the last one. the combat isn't THAT hard if you take the time to think about what you're doing, and the bandits are trivial after you get some decent armor and better weapons. the guns are actually realistic, you have to try to aim then, unlike most shooters these days where you can just aim in a general direction and things die.

Posted in the other thread, nobody commented on it. Gosha Kutsenko is actually pretty popular and good Russian actor, doesn't look like all Uve Boll crap they do for game based movies...

This site doesn't work for me. Anyone else? It won't load. I wait and wait. . Then hit trailer and it doesn't move. Not sure if it's a script thing or something.

Well then you didnt actually beat the game. The game beat you. You see in russia the game beats you.

Also that camp at the beginning is hard as hell to take. Its doable but hard as hell. Go ahead and try I think I did it one time. No cheating.

Isn't there a bug that prevents you from getting the "good" ending on SoC? I'm sure one of the mods fixes it.

Oh, and I had to cheat to beat Clear Sky. I unknowingly went past a "point of no return" and I ended up with tons of excess equipment I had intended to sell, not enough money for repairs, non-upgraded weapons and armor... etc. Basically when I got near the final section of the game it was literally impossible for me to get through without instantly dying. So I cheated. That left a pretty bad impression.

Yeah I tried my best to like Stalker but I couldn't get into it. Died too many times and "missed" too many times. Fallout 3 is much more fun.

I beat the game with good ending on version 1.0

The best was like 1 day after the game came out people were jumpin on the forums saying how shitty the ending was - they lost the game and didnt even know it. Probably the only time you will ever see someone lose a game and not realize it. I love that.

It left a bad impression because it was hard?

I loved Stalker, and liked the whole series. Clear Skies was good early, but was less so later on. Too much of a rail. I was never moved to finish it. Just modded faction wars in and played with that. CoP is pretty good off the bat. You can also mod each of them up to get closer to your ideas of fun.

Thought the weapon behavior was pretty decent for old guns left in field conditions for awhile. And they seemed accurate enough. Statistics for wounds per shot from WWII sorta fit in there.

Great atmosphere, easy modding, no run and gun. Great! Of course, I didn't get StalkerSoC til after the 3rd or 4th big patch, which helps alot. Fallout still crashes too much, has mechanics issues, and the storyline wasn't handled well imo. I'd also rather support innovative indies than Bethesda's incompetance.

didn't work for me at all the fist couple of times, a week or two ago when someone first posted here. Finally worked for me today. So yeah, it's a bit wonky.

I got stubborn about that first camp and eventually beat it going in with just the pistol. Don't know how many times I restarted it, more than 5 though. The big thing for me was shoot at someone, then run around quickly to another spot. Stay in the same area=pwned.

Well I attack those 3 guys on patrol. Get their shit (almost impossible) and then try to take the camp. A well placed grenade will soften the camp up pretty good.

I think people tend to not like it because it requires ACTUAL strategy. Personally, I don't like run and shoot type of FPS so STALKER was a very refreshing type of gameplay. Everyone complaining about it being too hard/boring, etc. just can't let go the fact that you just can't run and randomly shoot and hope you are going to beat the game. It's what I appreciated about the game; you need to actually think about what you're doing, imo.
