but seriously, get the 6800GT and overclock it to an ultra. much more performance, but at a higher cost (around $460). at least those are readily available at newegg.com; there is only 1 x800xl

it wont require any more power then an x800xl, and if you think its loud get an NV5 for a measly $30. totally silent and your temps will drop alot, allowing most people to get to 430/1180 from 350/1000. (400/1100 is ultra stock speeds)
there are no games that "require" an nvidia gpu, or an ati gpu for that matter. if you play HL2 the nvidia 6800's perform GREAT, not as good as the ATIs but still perfectly able.

Huh? They require MUCH less power than a 6800! They don't even need the 6 Pin Connector or a fricken huge heatsink!

not sure wtf you are talking about...they prolly take less power then a 6800 but its not like its a big deal. they still need the power connector, and they have a 1 slot hsf...like every 6800GT

Whether or not the card needs an auxillary power connecter, depends on the bus.
Usually you won't need it if it's connected via PCI Express.

i believe that sapphire and asus cards do NOT have a bus connector . . .powercolor DOES, just in case you OC it and it needs more power, blah blah blupity bla blah-blah

A measly $30 added to $460 for the card makes it a whopping $490 (plus tax!) versus a card that should be $300 (MSRP) and he's hoping falls at least under $400. Quite a difference (even as it is the difference is $70).

yeah, but with that the card will be quieter then an x800XL and run cooler (link). if that dosn't fall in your budget, then it dosnt fall in your budget i guess.
he was talking about getting an x800xl for $420, and IMO i would rather spend the extra $70 and get the GT. he heard bad things about it (which are half true, the fan isnt the quietest thing ever and it does consume more power) but it isnt "FRIGGIN LOUD" espically compared to the x800xl.
to each's own i guess

i wasn't talking about getting it for $420, i was disappointed that the total came to $420 with tax and shipping

my max is about $380 . . . $500 is WAY TOO MUCH

Actually under load the x series requires more power. The 6 series simply requires a more stable load of power to operate and thus two connectors.

Oh i see this is the XL. I know nothing about this card.

actually the Powercolor will NOT work wiht out that connector. the reason its there is because of the secound DVI. which goes to tell you the PCi-e bus is just barely supplying enough power to run a x800xl

depends on if you will actually USE the VIVO or 2nd DVI connector. PS3 will be a pretty nice feature to have in the future. its not a huge deal but it does give more performance in some areas.
