but seriously, get the 6800GT and overclock it to an ultra. much more performance, but at a higher cost (around $460). at least those are readily available at newegg.com; there is only 1 x800xl

Huh? They require MUCH less power than a 6800! They don't even need the 6 Pin Connector or a fricken huge heatsink!

Whether or not the card needs an auxillary power connecter, depends on the bus.
Usually you won't need it if it's connected via PCI Express.

it wont require any more power then an x800xl, and if you think its loud get an NV5 for a measly $30. totally silent and your temps will drop alot, allowing most people to get to 430/1180 from 350/1000. (400/1100 is ultra stock speeds)
there are no games that "require" an nvidia gpu, or an ati gpu for that matter. if you play HL2 the nvidia 6800's perform GREAT, not as good as the ATIs but still perfectly able.

$380 with dual DVI, VIVO, component out, and internal S-video in? Nice. The fan looks quite large, too, which may mean quiet.

A measly $30 added to $460 for the card makes it a whopping $490 (plus tax!) versus a card that should be $300 (MSRP) and he's hoping falls at least under $400. Quite a difference (even as it is the difference is $70).

yeah, but with that the card will be quieter then an x800XL and run cooler (link). if that dosn't fall in your budget, then it dosnt fall in your budget i guess.
he was talking about getting an x800xl for $420, and IMO i would rather spend the extra $70 and get the GT. he heard bad things about it (which are half true, the fan isnt the quietest thing ever and it does consume more power) but it isnt "FRIGGIN LOUD" espically compared to the x800xl.
to each's own i guess

but i dont want a 6800GT, those things are FRIGGEN LOUD and power consuming!
plus, i dont play Doom3 or other games that require nVidia GPUs
