I can't update my email address in my profile

It's been awhile since I participated in the forums here at Anandtech. So long that in fact I don't use the same email address that is associated with my account. I still have access to my old email account, but would like to update my profile here to reflect my new primary email.

Problem is when I go into my profile, make the change and hit update, it says "username error". I'm assuming I can't have the underscore in the name Hard_Boiled anymore. How can I get my email fixed? Would it require me to change my name?

Sigh. Try "username". There are probably more than 10 threads about this already.

I don't want to change my username. I want to update my email address which it won't let me. The forums have changed since I was last coming here, I was just trying to find some help.

Is the sigh really necessary? If I have to change my username in order to update my email I'll pass, but I think its fair for me to ask if there is a way to update my email without asking a mod to change my username first.

You cannot change your any info in your profile because your username has a special character in it.

Either live with the old address, or PM a mod, asking to change your name to HardBoiled (assuming that's what you want and its not already taken), then you'll be able to update your profile. Those are the only two options.

Yes the sigh is necessary because, if you had searched, you would have found at least 10 threads on this same subect almost all of which tell you what the problem is and how to solve it, if you wish to solve it.
You wouldn't have to ask if there's a way if you just looked first.

Things like "I'm trying to correct the timezone in my profile (pacific), however, it complains that my name has a non-alphanumeric character. Is there any way to correct this without a username change?" Answer: nope.

Or "This is nice, I can't update my profile because of the space in my name." Answer: "To change your profile you'll have to have the space removed from your user name, that's the only way AFAIK."

That's about it, there are several people in the same situation.
