I start crying like a little girl It's one of the few shows on the air that actually helps people, and it's so heartwarming I can't stand it!

The show is on right now, and they're rebuilding a home for a Marine that had his leg blown off, then his wife left him and he's now caring for his kids in a crappy house. It's on ABC right now if you want to check it out.

How in the heck do they actually build a house in one week? These cant honestly be good houses. I mean, it takes days for a concrete slab to set yet they do that stuff over night.

I believe they reuse the foundation. There's also quickset foundations that can be used.

It takes about 24 hours to cure enough to build on. It takes about 30+ days to totally cure depending on thickness.

Concrete doesn't gain strength by drying, but by "curing" which it does for the period while it remains damp after laying. It will gain strenth fastest within hte first 48 hours.

So google says...

I've never purposely chose to watch that show, but my friends former GF always did and it always brought a tear to my eye. Which is sorta why I don't watch it. Not so much to tearing up part, but that it seems to be a form of Charity Junk Food. Making the audience feel a part of something they contributed nothing to. I dunno, they do good things overall which is a nice change from Worm Eating, competing in convoluted challenges, Modeling, getting a job, etc ect that passes for TV these days.

Don't worry, your tears will turn to disgust when you see Ms Montana performing at the end.

Man I'm sick of her. And I don't even know what she sings about.

The couple I live with always get all teary eyed watching it.

I've never watched it in recent memory. It just seems to sensationalistic for my taste. However, from some of the ones I've heard at least it's helping out people that deserve it.

That show is way too over-emotional and sensational. I understand building houses for people in need, but it's getting ridiculous. First they started remodeling and putting in small additions. Now they doze the old house and build small mansions.

I remember one episode where they had a wall of 6 big screen TVs, one for each kid in the house - they all had headphones for their personal TV. What an extravagant waste.

Concrete NEVER stops curing.

Standard mixes take a few days to be structurally sufficient, but you can add admixtures to the mix such as fly-ash or other chemicals to produce "high-early" mixes that achieve sufficient psi in a matter of hours to overnight.

I remember reading a report that most people don't keep the homes built for them since they can't afford the taxes despite the show giving them money to help pay for just that. Most families just end up selling the house, pocketing the money, and moving to a smaller more manageable house.
