I RMAd my drive and they sent me another drive. I dont want to loose everything I have and dont want to install all my programs over again.
I copied the hard drive using NOrton Ghost and now when I load from the new driver, I get stuck at the main welcome screen. I usually click on my name and it'll log me in, now none of the login shows ?

Anyone got ideas?

Have you tried logging in with safe mode. You can do that by pressing F8 right before the Windows XP screen comes up with the little blue scroll bar.

If you can, it sounds like it is a driver conflict... possibly your IDE controller. Try Uninstalling it from the device manager and reboot.

Clone the drive using the hard disk mfg's utility and see what happens.

Thanks for the help guys.
I guess Starting fresh can't really hurt so I installed Windows OS from scratch anyways. This is like my 5th fresh install in 2 months. I hate calling whackosoft.

so quit activating right after the install...give it time to settle down and make sure it's working, and possibly to change H/W before final config. Then activate, make an image, and be happy.

Well, making an image might not be the best idea, with the present situation. A direct disc-to-disc copy wasn't bootable for some reason. That reason should be determined before an image is made.

Doing a image to image copy doesn't install the mbr or boot loader, or at least it doesn't by default. Most of the time it doesn't work when using different drives, at least with partimage.

That was in regards to his 5 activations in 2 months comment.

Roger that! I do it just about every week or so on three different computers. The key is to use the CLONE function, not image or copy. Cloning is a bit-by-bit duplication of the drive that includes the MBR, etc., all in the exact same place. I've never even had to reactivate after cloning. It is the same system.
