Well my two buddies recently did some upgrades to their PC and while not as elaborate as theirs, I bit the bullet and upgraded my amd2500 and 9600xt... while recycling my memory, case and PS (antec sonata II and 450ps)

new mb:
http://www.memoryexpress.com/index.php?...tDetail.php&DisplayProductID=6546&SID=

Processor: amd 64 3000

Video: bfg 7800gt

and a WD 200gb sataII drive

Have to throw my crud together tonight and check on my old memory as I think on of my 512 sticks is 2100 (266). My other 2 sticks are 333 and 400.

Yah for toys!

any chance you could upgrade to the DFI LanParty UT NF4-D for only $15 more?

it can easily be modded to SATAII and SLI support.

I guess I could, though this board ^^ does have sataII already and I can't see myself every using sli .. I'll sniff around this option a bit more. The main reason for this upgrade above anything else was to get a better video card. I'm not certain how much faster a 64 3000 is over the xp 2500 but I know the 7800gt is heaps quicker then th 9600xt.

I thought that needs a hardmod (on the chip)?

The Lanparty NF4 Ultra D comes sata II capable. "SATA speed up to 3Gb/s "
Link
You obviously need to add 2 gigs of dual channel ram to your system though.

SATA II doesn't really make any difference unless your drives are 10000+ rpm, which wouldn't make much difference from SATA anyway...

SLI? Too rich for my blood.

Yeah nothing like new toys. There is nothing like unpacking that brand new CPU or videocard from the box. One thing I've noticed is how heavy and big a new videocard is, compare to something like a Radeon 9800 Pro for example.

This was the first thing I noticed too. The thing card is massive, stretching right across the motherboard and it felt very heavy (obviously the fan/cooling system). I wasn't happy about it eating up a PCI slot either - despite knowing about that prior to purchase.

Anyhow, I got it all setup and running last night. No OCing yet, just had time to get the OS on, drivers etc. Oh, and BF2 with all settings maxed just to see Will run some benchmarks start tweaking this weekend.
