I cracked my Duron 600

Darn.. I was applying artic silver.. and my orb cracked edge of the cpu core...
strange thing is I can still boot at 600, but can't overclock anymore.. won't do anything other than 600.. I wonder what is going on...
do any of you know why this is happening? if it is not running at all.. I'll understand.. but..
oh well..

If it runs, it works. What may have happened is that you chopped off a chunk, but your chip still runs fine. However, the lose of that chunk may have decreased the contact area with the HSF significantly, thus hindering the heat transfer. In other words, it became tougher to cool.

If can't be OCed.. no good for me..
but I am poor student... so I guess I'll go for another 600...

If a CPU is getting damaged from simply putting on a heatsink, it's time to wonder about the quality of the CPU. Seems pretty flakey if you ask me.

depends on what type of heat sink fan he used...you have to push pretty hard on those orbs
