Family friend was raped the other night. This is my pastor's daughter, and I grew up with her and her brother. The other girl raped was her roomate, and she goes down to a Bible college in Lakeland where my brother just graduated. We've been friends with the family for a very long time. We were BF/GF when we were 11/12 years old or whatever, and she is one of the sweetest girls in the world. Apparently this guy is a known registered sex offender who had been drinking and had a gun. They were out waiting by the pool for the brother to get home from work. The article is inaccurate when it says several people met them, because they were simply waiting for her brother. He forced them into some type of room and raped them both. My friend resisted and I do believe he battered her pretty heavily. My Pastor and his Wife drove down there at lightning speed at three in the morning, and her best friend took the next flight down there. This is incredibly upsetting to all of us involved, and it couldn't have happened to a nicer, more caring family.
I seriously think rape like this with a prior history is deserving of the death penalty. I'm told he recently got out of prison or jail, and I like I sad he was a prior sex offender. I assume he finds his courage in a bottle, and was living in his parent's apartment down there. This is the only time this girl has lived away from home, and she moved down there less than a year ago. I just don't understand people... why do they do things like this?
