Who started it doesn't so much matter to me. I will intervene in any fight if it looks like intervention is needed. For the most part, if both parties are willing combatants, I would not intervene, if one is clearly the agressor and the other is in a defensive posture or trying to flee, I would try to protect that person, regardless of gender.

Also, I wouldn't be jumping in there throwing haymakers, I would try to restrain the aggressor in the safest way I could.

Most of the stuff guys do is for that reason. I remember looking through the #freethenipple stuff a few day ago and being surprised at all the pictures of guys sprinkled throughout it. It could easily be theorized that men who support that movement simply aren't fucking retarded and have chosen the second easiest social justice warrior thing to jump on (the easiest being sharing the Kony 2012 video).
