Thank god I get Time Warner, where I don't have to put up with this bullshit.

Mwhahahahahahaha.

I'm looking to relocate and since my job only needs access to an airport, I can pretty much live anywhere. I'm using the comcast and TW coverage maps to know where NOT to look.

This was on reddit. Not buying it, but Comcast is a cume sucking ISP and my service is always down. I have a new modem too. Sometimes It's all three; TV, Internet and phone that are out.

I'm curious as to what sort of area you live in, and if you recall, who the provider was before Comcast bought in. I don't like the company very much, but our service is almost never down.

Here I am hoping Google fiber will drive these cable companies out of business.

If Google ever tried to roll out fiber nationwide they would get held for ransom by every petty, cash-starved municipal government just like Verizon was, and Comcast is. We can bitch about the big telecoms, but it's also true that state and local governments are essentially a concrete wall in front of anyone who tries to innovate in this area.

He attempted to cancel his service in Oct. 2013 but says a Comcast rep convinced him that the billing issues would be resolved and that he would get free DVR service and The Movie Channel for three months as compensation.

Yeah - no.

You either cancel,.. or you don't. Also,...

At some point shortly after that call, someone from Comcast contacted a partner at the firm to discuss Conal. This led to an ethics investigation and Conal’s subsequent dismissal from his job; a job where he says he’d only received positive feedback and reviews for his work.

Uh,.. what.

If you work for a company that bends that easily,.. or is prone to such pettiness,.. leave.

Sounds like this man worked for a really shitty firm.

When we first got Comcast it was solid. But now at least once a month there are outages. And when I call Comcast there is a recording saying there are problems in the area.

The plot thickens.

Make what you will of this, it may be real, it may not be, but figured I'd share. I got this... PM? I think? I don't know reddit well enough, but I'm guessing it's a PM because it's not linking to a specific post, but this is the content:

=============

Cowicide has now been banned from reddit after Comcast post

from Cowicidal sent 7 hours ago

Well, Comcast shills got both Cowicide and his housemate shadowbanned. So Cowicide has now been censored for bringing up censorship.

Similar in concept to complaining to a company about their shady practices and then losing your account in retribution.

The Cowicide user page is gone:

https://www.reddit.com/user/Cowicide/

Such a classic mistake....

Please let people know that if one criticizes Comcast too much, it may mean you can also lose your Reddit account along with your job.

Thank you and please keep up the fight against Comcast shills.

Just figured I'd share.

Also, Comcast seems to have "apologized" (of course when big companies say sorry, they're just doing it for the PR not because they're trying to be like Canadians)

This story is unbelievably fake.

I know, I know, Comcast is bad...

Funny you say that because Comcast admits it happened. No doubt they'll claim they didn't actually request the guy get fired (and the guy's former firm is definitely not going to admit that's what occurred for obvious reasons), but they admit one of their employees contacted his work.

I hope that guy's lawyer is good, or he hires a better one. They need to hammer the fuck out of Comcast over this.

"We're sorry. We're not going to do anything about this, but, like, we're sorry it happened." What the fuck.

They've actually encountered places begging them to roll out fiber and offering whatever they can to get them to. Hell just read up on what KC did to get them to. That might seem unfair to the big telecomms that were already established, but they were doing absolutely nothing to innovate or improve their network anywhere close to what Google did and then they complained that Google got preferential treatment and it wasn't a level playing field. That's because the telecomms have done deals like that in the past and then half-ass it and don't follow through (see Verizon's New Jersey fiber deal for instance: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/bruce-kushnick/show-me-the-money-verizon_b_5023898.html). They've consistently proven they don't deserve subsidies because they just use it to boost profits and not actually do jack shit to improve networks. They complain about unfair competition and then have exploited their monopolistic control every bit they can.

Also, the fucked up situation at the state and city level is because the telecomms have made it that way. They've paid to have laws that protect their monopolies among other bullshit.

Yup. I think both of these were already linked but they're pertinent if you want a heads up of of the situation so far.

Yes the guy's account is one sided so far, but when you've seen the consistent ineptitude if not outright maliciousness of some of these telecomms (Comcast themselves I think have had a couple of very public full on crazy level customer service issues just in like the past month that they openly admitted to) I don't find it hard to accept. I don't doubt the guy probably did get pretty frustrated and so I don't doubt he did probably a fair amount of yelling and probably cursing at the people at some point.

I have Mediacom which is just as bad, and only recommended using a reliable VPN, such as Cyberghost premium or Snowden edition.

Filing costs money. He's given them a chance to offer him a payoff ahead of that.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if the story was true. I can imagine just as bad by others (e.g. AT&T).

On a side note, it's always nice to see large corporations' ethics boards - used to pick on the bit players of companies. But if someone's generating a lot of money for the company, even with severe ethical lapses, no one ever says a peep...
