The mods moved my huge for sale post to FS/FT and I wanted first pick to go to DC.

I got an email and I wrote back and it has been hours and no response.

I never do anything wrong and don't even know who is a moderators.

I don't know if I kept pushing reload to see if I had PM's or editing and that trigered a mod to look at the post or if there was another reason for the (boot/move.)

I just started pricing and got error and started tracing and found out what had happened.

I bought a 20 inch LCD monitor and have no debt or desire for debit for my play toys. So I decided to start selling stuff I have. Swaping one set of toy for another so to speak.

If the mods don't tollerate the way I was doing it I would like to find a way around and and still offer to the DC's

For example pricewatch lowest list an XP 2000+ for $75 shipped and I started asking $65 shipped to PM inqueries and then was about to post the price once I had searched the pricewatch. I think $10 below the lowest is great and would be snapped up on FS/FT but I thought the DC home people would be better.

Part of my asking offers was finding what people were interest in and hoping to dump like all the ram to one person or find out if I needed to read the FS/FT to find out what it was going for to price individually.
Other stuff like games was just for someone else to play cause I had my fill and no nephew close to give to. And make a few sheckles for computer parts like this LCD that popped up.

Anyway any suggestion.

I thought of floating a few items at a time across the DC forum but might irk/upset a moderator again.

A discussion was held with the Moderator staff discussing your for sale thread earlier today. It was decided that this website is too large to police all the forums for For Sale/Trade violations. All sale threads must conform to the rules of the For Sale forum, and thus not only had you not posted in the correct forum so that the FS Trade moderators could keep watch of it, you also failed to post prices, which is mandatory. Therefore your thread was removed from this forum. You can post an OT alert to your DC friends that you have a thread open in the FS forum but we cannot allow FS threads to pop up randomly all over the forums. If you wish to give discounts to those who crunch DC, that is your business, but post your threads in the appropriate forum. Some forums recieve far less moderation due to the loads that other forums present the staff. In order to keep our load to a minimum we must maintain some organization to which type threads will be allowed in each.

Thanks for understanding

FWIW, on a previous occasion I PM'd the Mods for permission to post a FS-type thread in the DC Forum for the same reason you've given - that you wanted to offer the parts to TA DC people first.

The Mods responded and denied my request because it was considered to be OT and should be posted only in the FS/T forum. Now, as far as I know, that response was never actually posted to the rest of the Forum at large, but since it was given to me, I have take care not to post FS stuff in this forum.

The short of it is I'm not surprised that the thread was moved and I seriously doubt that it'll get moved back here.

Perhaps posting the for sale thread in the FS/T forum with higher prices than what you'd charge someone that's on the TeAm. And then posting an OT: thread here, with a link to your FS thread, saying something like, "I'll take $X.XX off of the price to someone that's crunching.".

I too was just looking for your thread to bump it up, and a search found it washed up in the FS/FT forum.

Mods, we have many people here who do not venture outside of the DC forum, and many members here would prefer people on the Team bearing your name to have first refusal on the items.

It's the same principle of asking your family members if they want something before you sell it to total strangers. We all here are a community, and therefore as a community, we offer services to each other, be it help/advice, or products that we would rather see go to good crunching homes.

I, like many others, know that FS posts are OT, and that OT posts in other forums are moved/deleted very rapidly. However we have always had a strong, self-monitored community. Sure we may have the occasional hickup, or occasional Nef thread, and the occasional FS thread, but they are just that - self moderated, and in moderation.

I am very thankful for the amount of freedom we do have here in the DC forum. Are we spoiled? Maybe, maybe not. I for one would like to have the occasional FS thread, where I can get parts at good prices, from people I know and trust, available to me here in "our" community. I do not generally go into Hot Deals or FS/FT, like many other people here, and I am grateful for people such as muttley, and others, who want their "family" to have first dibs on things they want to sell, be it to upgrade crunchers or whatever.

Muttley had put in a lot of time and effort in putting the post together for us here, and I am sad to see it moved.

I know I am just a small voice in a huge crowd, but I feel in this matter I want to speak up and let me feelings be heard.

I've had better luck by simply putting a big fat OT: in front of such posts.
Sometimes I think maybe I just get lucky, I dunno. They seem to come and go with the strictness of what's OT and what's not and what they allow and what they move.
Sorry you got nicked.

I received an email that the thread had been moved. I don't know why I always get these, I guess because I replied to it.

I dunno what to suggest, but it would be nice if they would allow you to post it here!

It looks like your thread is gone. I bet it is because of the following rule I clipped from the leadoff post in the FS/FT Forum

You MUST post a price for ALL FS deals and FS/FT deals.

I'm trying to remember, did you post a price?

If you didn't then ole catch 22 got you.

They moved your thread to FS/FT because it was OT.

And then they deleted the thread in FS/FT because it didn't have "prices".

OH well, live and learn I guess. Sorry "muttley", I know those threads are hard to recreate.

When I post a long thread (which I'm prone to do every once in a while ) I usually compose them in WORD. That way if there is a snafu when I attempt to post them on the AT Forum and the post gets lost (I bet everyone has had that happen to them from time to time) you have a backup.

Thanks everyone.

Networkman thanks for the reply.

I don't even know how to PM a mod or even who they are.

I think what I will do is in my signature make a subdomain for sale stuff. for now I think I'll just make www.advancedhelp.org/forsale.html maybe forsale.advancedhelp.org

Give me some time to set it up.

I've got some 100 gig 7200 rpm WD drive. for $100 shipped (add another $5 and I'll see how to send a little quicker) do you people think that is fair for fellow DCers. Pricewatch says $133 oem and these are retail so have 3 year warranty. One is new in box and a second is a matched that has I opened and ran for say 48 hours (loaded XP to see if a DOS database program would run and it wouldn't and so project scrapped for now.
I have a 3rd drive that is RMA just back from WD I think its worth the same price just no black pad sound dampner on it. I'll have to look at the date code.

Anyway enough for now so I don't push a mod.

PM me and tell me if I'm in line with a price for the DC family.

Thanks
muttley

I don't know if it is deleted or not no in FS/FT

I did remove the subject and the content and replaced each with a "." dot. So I wouldn't sell in FS/FT till I was sure I didn't have a chance to sell to the DCers

My suggestion would be to compose the thread in notepad or word. then copy-paste the entire thing into PMs for the people you want to have the first crack.

maybe it would be good etiquite to put a comment out first and offer DC'ers the PM (so you don't get accused of spamming)

After the time and opportunity you want to give the DC'ers, then copy-paste to the FS:FT thread.

Hmm it seems like the mods are being a bit more picky as of late. Not that they are in the wrong in any way. Just that the leway we had in not as big....

I've always been under the impression that the mods want posts in the DC forum to remain relatively on-topic, but allow nef/OT/FS/FT threads for the most part. They more or less let these "FS/FT to DCer first" threads go, but I'm pretty sure your FS/FT thread in here wasn't the first to get moved. Yours might have caught attention because it was long, and it didn't list the prices for the items listed. Anyway.... You don't have a 9700 Pro on sale, do you?

Thanks for clearing it up Mr. AnandTech Moderator

I appreciate your time in giving us all an explanation, I for one will try harder to be more conforming in the future.

I erased the title and body shortly after it was moved to FS/FT

Yes I have seen what you are talking about.

The list was long and I put in the monty python video as a joke sale though I really do have every thing I described.
So if there was a comment I missed it.

I made a copy of one of the screens of my list before deleting but don't know it was was from the FS/FT and it doesn't have an edit note so it must not be.

Sounds fair to me thanks Mod. Also thanks for giving us the consideration of explaining this issue since it is something that pops up often here.

I understand you man, the mods locked an OT question with no given reasoning in the networking forum, no violations, just a question about how come everyone was giving me a hard time with the prices on wireless nics that I had for sale. nics fit in the networking forum right? one would think so. I feel somewhat saddened as I pretty much help others and have never had a thread locked before or even crapped on, makes me think about not using AT anymore and looking for another tech news site.

Again, thanks mods for taking care of this issue in a matter that I believe to be acceptable to all.

I once had an issue about fs stuff to DC members and wasn't given a formal explination. This clears things up.
