I do not get sufficient speed on shared WIFI

Hello..

We are three people sharing 4MB wifi. I am using alfa AWUSO36NH. The signal strength is 78%. At night I can get the speed even upto 400Kbytes/second but at day time even a webpage does not load. My system is dell inspiron 5520 i7 running windows 10.

You're going to have to have a talk with the others on the network. 4MB isn't enough bandwidth for 3 people to share. If one person is downloading and another person is streaming a video, that would explain you not being able to load a web page.

Buy a router that has QoS settings, then throttle all connections to be 1/3 of max speed.
Then turn that off when you need all the speed.

The other thing is make sure youre on the least congested master channel (1, 6, 11). Download the app "wifi analyzer" from the play store and turn it on (on your phone). It will show all the wifi signals in your area. Find the band that is the least congested, then hard set your router to that band. Its good practice to recheck every once in awhile. Remember with wifi ALL bandwidth is shared (to an extent). So a congested channel will be much slower than a less congested one.

You could have your own router than having a shared one in which you are having a hard time in using when you need it in the day. 4MBP isn't enough to run anything you want on your device. Try connecting to a vpn, maybe it could help you to have a fast connection and safe browsing.

A VPN will only make him slower, because of the overhead and additional hops it adds.

On that note, wifi does get slower the more traffic it gets as it acts more like a hub not a switch, but you would need a lot of traffic to get it to a point where it's unusable.

Meh, even a low-budget modern WAP is pretty easy to overload with protocols like bittorrent.
