I don't game anymore, ditch my 9800 Pro?

I bought a built by ATI 9800 Pro 128M retail card a few months ago, and I played and beat a lot of games with it. But this next semester I have a really large workload at school and also a job on top of it. I'm not going to have much spare time at all to play any games, not to mention with all the spare time I've had over break I haven't played a single game. I think I've outgrown games.

Anyway, should I sell it and go back to my GeForce3 Ti200? The only reason I'm asking is because the Ti200 doesn't have a DVI connection, so if I decide to get an LCD, I may regret selling the 9800 Pro. I could probably get about $240 I'm guessing for it from a friend in town or something. I'm also probably going to sell one of my 512MB sticks since my motherboard isn't dual channel since I don't really need 1GB of RAM if I don't game anymore, eh?

I'm probably going to be fine with my 2.4 P4, 512MB, and 80GB HDD system for a few years since I don't game anymore, too.

Cliff notes: Is it worth keeping a 9800 Pro just for the DVI connection (since I don't play games anymore) if I decide to upgrade from my 17" CRT to an LCD, or should I just use my Ti200 laying in the closet with my CRT since I won't be using my PC all that much anyway?

Yes, sell it now and get the money that's it worth right now, cause later on when you're ready to buy a new one it won't be worth as much... and if you don't plan on using it, or using it would be a bad thing (taking you away from your studies) I say sell it now while it's still worth as much as it is.

*EDIT* Since you don't really want to play ANY games... you could sell the GF3 Ti200 to buy a GF4MX200 or an 8500 or something of that calibur that has DVI for an LCD that you might buy.

Thanks for the input, I've decided I'm going to try and sell it at a friend's LAN tomorrow along with some other stuff.

The G550's come with DVI, so no problem there

i say keep it

you're only going to lose money on the deal due to extremely fast depreciation of computer products

Keep it. You will not not game anymore Trust me.

If you sell it, you'd just end up playing games compatible with the Ti200, so why deprive yourself?

Gaming is a terrific way to unload the stress of a heavy workload. I go through times when I don't do alot of gaming with all the irons in the fire with raising kids, long workdays, maintaining a household and whatnot. Unless you need the cash, I'd hang onto the card you never know when the urge will hit you, and its nice to just fire up a game and go.

if you vasilate between keeping it now for that oportune moment of gaming weakness and perhaps selling it later, versus selling it now to maximize your cash, I would say sell it off now, for about $150+.

if you try to sell her off in a couple/few months, in this market, I'd say that card is lucky to fetch more than $150 then. The way prices tend to drop in this economy, a 9800Pro, while still very sexy, won't be worth as much by spring.

Oh and I have yet to see an LCD monitor with a DVI input. I have used Princeton's and NEC's and none came with a DVI input. Just my experience. I am sure there are many models out there with this input, but I haven't missed not having one yet.

Also, for christ sakes, the GF4 MX440 or any MX line of cards are crap crap crap. the GF3 ti200 is a much nicer card.
I'd personally get an inexpensive Geforce FX 5200 with DVI. They can be had for less than $70 in most cases.

Keep it. HL2 and Doom3 will be out soon enough, then you'll wish you had it.

You are quitting gaming all together? Yeah I would sell the video card, but dont say you are giving up gaming... how can you give up gaming entirely? One day you will come back right?

Keep it, there's nothing better than knowing your computer is the best. You never know if you'll need it later on.

Sell it now and get $220 - $260. Then once you are interested again in the higher line graphics cards, there will be better ones available.
If you are talking about years, that 9800 pro price will take a nosedive. My .02 worth.

you gaming fools are trying to pull him back to the darkside.
he wants to get a life, let him get one.

seriously. sell the card right now. i mean right this second.
if down the line you want an lcd monitor, you can always use your regular vga.
it's not going to matter that much. you're not going to be saying DAMN i wish i had DVI.

i mean listen to yourself. $240 for DVI? please!!!

SELL IT NOW!

in a few months to a year, i'm sure you will come back to gaming. by then you can re-buy the video card and ram for half the price.

btw.... SELL IT NOW!
