I cant recall the exact post or find a link, but I believe recently Bioware said they were studying Skyrim and were hoping to include some of the open world type content into DA3. Could be exciting, or could just be another lame attempt to copy someone else.

By the way, was Bioware in such bad shape financially that they could not survive as an independent studio? Just curious if they really had to sell out to EA or if they just got greedy. I suppose they needed EA's resources to produce TOR.

EA bought Bioware's investor group.

I think Bioware struck the right balance in DA:O by adding cinematics and voice acting without loosing the traditional feel of a CRPG.

I don't think text conversations is the way to go - in fact I thought the voice acting was one of the things that made DA:O great.

I do agree. I really love the voice acting. But in the interest of being able to pump out epic games in a classic BG-style engine in reasonable time intervals I would be ok without voice acting. It provides more room for epicness without worrying about players getting sick of hearing the same voice actor all the damn time in each DLC.

I just believe that there is a reason some people seem to go back to the old games and games like Dwarf Fortress, online MUDs and such have such dedicated fans.

The idea is, masses of low-budget games + DLC from a high quality studio.

I went back and finished DA2 last night, I had originally quit playing upon finishing Act 2 back in March or April... So it's been maybe 9 months or so since I'd played, and thankfully they seem to have fixed the insane difficutly spikes. This time I just wanted it over with so I played on the easiest setting...

The graphics are really quite good, it runs much more smoothly than I remembered it on my old 460GTX. All in all, the storyline is just brutally God awful bad though. And it does not get better in Act 3 as I'd read several people say, it just continues it's spiraling descent into total nothingness. The story is sooo bad. Every quest involves Blood Magic. Are you fucking serious? How many blood mages are there in Kirkwall exactly? Apparently far more than there are regular mages. The ultimate laugh-out-loud moment was the stunt our old boy Orsino pulls at the end, c'mon man!

Ugh, this game is a disgrace to the original DA:O. And yet, on a technical level, DA2 is pretty awesome. So frustrating... ultimately this is a game I will never, could never play again. I really liked Merrill, and I thought Isabella was interesting enough. But that's really all I take away from it. The combat was actually fun, except for the waves of enemies which defeat the whole tactical nature of the combat. Oh well...

Agreed, the last act was laughable. And if you ally yourself with a different side to see what happens, you'll still get the exact same ending.
Anders becomes terrorist, Orsino goes mad, the templar woman uses the artifact, etc...
Nothing changes.
