Not if he meant the drug "heroin." If he meant a female hero, then yes, he absolutely spelled it correctly. But in that case, he should have used the plural noun "heroines," not the singular; you wouldn't say "I don't know why people bother with cocaine when we have stove." It demands either a plural noun or an appropriate article on a singular noun; "a heroine" would be correct. So he either spelled it wrong or used improper grammar. I'm guessing he spelled it wrong.
