I used to live in a town with bike lanes all over and a lot of bikers. Most of them were just fine, it's not hard to stay on the correct side of the road and in the lane, but there was one guy in particular that always pissed me off. I seemed to always be driving to work at the same time he was biking in, and despite the 3 ft wide bike lane, this guy insisted on riding directly on the line between the car lane and bike lane. I shit you not, I think he just did it to entertain himself and see if he could, but he did it every day. I hated that guy.

What's funny is that I've seen joggers do that too, despite the sidewalk, parking space, and bike lane.

I tend to favor the left side of the bike lane simply because there is less debris there.

You bike assholes should be subject, at the federal level (no leaving this shit up to apathetic state governments) to all the licensing restrictions that a motorized vehicle requires, if you want to ride on the road with everybody else. Licenses/endorsements and license plates, registration and insurance. And, if you don't have all of that, you get a ticket, just like any other vehicle on the road.

You want all the benefits, but don't want to play by the same damn rules.

What do you do about kids? And people are too poor to get insurance? Some people commute by bike because they can't afford anything else.

I agree! then we cyclist should be giving a credit for the amount we paid for the
licenses/endorsements and license plates, registration and insurance for using a environmentally friendly means of transportation and not fucking up the earth like assholes car drivers like you...

That attitude is just one more reason so many car drivers hate cyclists.

If you bike assholes want credits for buying an "environmentally safe" mode of transportation, then you should have to buy a $10,000 bicycle. No $50 wal-mart specials.

Look through these bike vs car threads. Most of "this attitude" you will see is from drivers, not cyclist. Just getting tired of arguing with ethugs who keep threatening to run over cyclist. I follow the rules of the road and spent a large part of my life biking to and from work, here and there, everywhere. you don't think 100k cars on the road is good for the environment? This is part of the reason America is a bunch of fatties...

Why not? You have to buy a special expensive hybrid vehicle to qualify for tax credits and what not, so why not have to buy a special expensive bike to qualify too?

I always use the bike lane as do most cyclists I see on a daily basis. The only time I see what the OP described is large organized group rides and/or training rides by professional cyclists. It is impossible to string out 1200 riders single file in a bike lane and maintain some sort of cohesion as a group. Again, this is not a normal everyday occurrence. I've ridden a few century rides that were like this in spots. There is safety in numbers so it is nice to be able to stick together.

And no, I don't run red lights or go the wrong way down one way streets but I don't stop for stop signs if there is no traffic either. I'll slow down and look both ways but I generally don't come to a complete stop. I have absolutely no qualms about how I conduct myself when I ride either.

I'm doubtful it was an organized thing, while there were a few groups out they were patches of only a few riders each and there didn't seem to be moving as a whole in any specific direction through town, I could be wrong but it looked like groups of people that decided to go for a ride with 3 or 4 other friends, it was the first relatively cool Sunday morning in a while so I assume there were plenty of people that wanted to make the most of it. There was PLENTY of room for them to all get over into the bike lane but they chose to ride with one or two people in the bike lane and the rest next to them sticking out into traffic.

Excellent point. Under 50cc mopeds do not need to be registered here in CA nor do they require a license plate.

Good luck getting cyclists to register and plate their bicycles.

Ultimately, it is up to law enforcement to issue tickets as they see fit. It is NOT up to Joe Fuckwad in his mommy wagon SUV sipping his latte to dispense "street justice" for being inconvenienced for a few seconds...so sorry to break it to all you dip thongs who advocate running down cyclists as a solution to your perceived problem.
