The ONLY reason to build it yourself is if you want control over everything - right down to the cables & screws you use.

I'd have to say that you're wrong there, at least for the UK.
Dell prices at the low end are much better than build your own, but once you hit the £1000 mark, it can actually be CHEAPER to build your own, including buying Windows/MS Works, trust me, I worked it out, and if you want proof, I have that (this was 2 months ago, so the build your own might be cheaper since RAM has gone down and so have CPU's).
