I ended up with the Planar PV174.. should I cancel?

I just ordered the Planar 17.4 LCD, and then I read the other LCD post and someone said there was horrible ghosting. But then some people say there isn't. I want to be sure so I don't just throw out $600 on something crappy =\... I mean the specs look fabulous.

I have a Radeon 8500, with a Samsung 900NF as my analog monitor, and I was hoping to use the Planar as my DVI one and just dual it like that..

I just need strict yes or no things about the Planar PV174 if people have owned it or tried it... Thanks.

I actually had the "CT" 17.4 Planar LCD model and I ran it with the analog line. I played everything from Tribes 2 to Quake 3 to any other type of application on a Radeon 32MB DDR and I never saw any ghosting problems at all.

But in the end I did end up selling the LCD becasue I thought it to be very bulky and ugly but that is my personal opinion.

Hmm... damn I don't get it then. Well I got the PV one.. I'll go compare the specs right now...

The 17.4 CT and PV model looks EXACTLY the same... 220 Brightness, 400:1 contrast, and 15 ms rise, 10 ms fall, and 160 degree viewing angle.

The *only* difference I see is that the PV can pivot...

Actually I was taking a look at the PV one, and I think that you might be in luck becasue the PV version does indeed pivot but it is also the latest version of the Planar 17.4 series. From the looks of it, it does look a tad more streamlined than the CT, but there is really no way to be sure unless you had both right in front of you.

I dunno, the visual display of my CT was superb...and Planar's customer service is the best I have seen in a long time. It was just that the CT LCD seemed to be very "thick" and it took up a lot of room, or so it seemed becasue the footprint was so large, but then again that could be my perception, but I doubt it becasue I have seen larger LCD's from Sony, Apple, and Samsung that look a lot less bulky.

epod.....pls let me know what you think when it shows....i ordered the PV174 on the 28th with the same deal and Dell is now giving me the "oh sorry we actually don't have em in stock" runaround. If it has a lot of problems, I might as well cancel before they ship.

Ordered the black one ( a little better match with the lian-li case) ....maybe that is the problem. Just checked again, still unshipped. Well you should be getting soon so let me know how it works out especially with the Rad8500. I have a non-DVI visiontek GF3 and might think ATi as a cheap but powerful DVI solution until i can get a GF4 w DVI later this year.

Great! Dell just emailed me back with a message that my PV174 is anticipated to ship on 1/25/02...they sounded very generous in thier offer to allow me to cancel anytime before they shipped.

25+days order to ship cycle time........"you should have asked for a dell dude" ....yeah right...for next xmas!

well epod, i guess the lighter side of this is that you will have plenty of time to check out the monitor and provide me (and others) with some feedback before i cancel my order if necessary. I am a FPS junkie so performance in Urban Terror or MOH:AA would be the litmus test for me. I hope it works out for both of us!

Damn that sucks that the black one is out of stock =\... I will test it thoroughly. Hopefully by running it as the 2ndary monitor, I can still play Q3 on it.. if not I'll switch it to my primary for a little bit. I haven't played Q3 in a while.. mainly Counter-Strike and RTCW...
